Got her home...WOW.

Post by todds112 »

My first Pinz adventure is over. I now have a 1973 Pinz 712 in the drive. Drove her back 1000 miles across South Dakota back here to Jackson. I froze my butt off!!! Only had one hic-up: the parking brake froze up. Got that corrected and continued on.

I can see the first thing I need to tackle is trying to sound insulte the thing. I knew it would be loud, but man oh man, my ears are still ringing!

Got a few little issues to address: front axle engagement light stays on all the time. One of the rear locker lights doesn't work. 4500 RPM warning light doesn't work. Need to tear down that parking brake assembly and see what's going on. Carbs are leaky: got that tell-tale grey substance all over and gas smell. Gonna spend the day tomorrow cleaning her up and checking for loose bolts from that trip.

One thing at a time. I can tell I'm going to have a great time with it.

If you do need to deal with the parking brake and a potential seal leak from overheating here is a link a doc describing my fun:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pinzgauer ... repair.pdf

I think that link should work better. It looks like you need to be a member of the group though. Worst case, just go to yahoo groups for Pinzgauer, doc is in the files section.

THANKS! I'm hoping I caught it before there was any real damage. I guess time will tell.

Russ, can you double check that link? I'm getting a "can not be found" message.

Or if you can email it directly to me at tstanyon@msn.com.

Thanks!

Nevermind, found it on the Yahoo sight and saved it. Very nice write-up. Man, I hope I don't have to mess with that seal.

Try this. Right click, scroll down to "save target as" and left click.

Updated above link. It does require a login to Pinzgauer yahoo groups for access to files.
