Well there is only a few that have gone there, so to speak. I can't speak for any of them but I am doing a full restoration for my own Pinz 712M. It is a major undertaking if you don't feel 100% about your abilities don't do it alone.

Here are some pictures of my restoration so far, sorry they are not organized better, but it should give you some idea of what to expect.

Pinz teardown
Pinz frame body off
Pinz motor trans teardown
Pinz frame restoration

So far I have a year+ into it working when I have the time around work.

Hope this helps, Miles

How about just buying a new body tub and going from there? It sounds like you have a TON of bodywork hours to pay for with your current rusty body. Think about it....

That's not a bad idea, I'll have to call Scott tomorrow to find out prices. maybe that's the solution for ugly duckling.

Hi! Is this the Pinzgauer that is posted for sale on craigslist? Or do you have more than one? The picture looks the same as yours.

I've been looking to pick up one, but I need to find a clean one or maybe a 712. The price on craigslist look OK. Great country up there.

Good luck on your project.

I can vouch that's it's a lot of work to rebuild a rusted body, but at least you'll know it's perfect if you do it properly.
I found substantial rust inside the body mount tubes and under the "tophat section" cross members when I completely stripped the body (I drilled out the spot welds holding all these parts together) although they looked fairly good from the outside.
"Re-Bodying" wasn't an option when I went down the rebuilding track, but panels were available from SDP and parts like the above mentioned tophat section etc were easily folded and fabricated.

It's always what you can't see that worries me in a rebuild, that's why I always like to have a spotweld drill available!
