Miles Pinz Restoration Progress (pic heavy-milestone thread)
Miles Pinz Restoration Progress (pic heavy-milestone thread)
So it's taken quite some time but I am happy with the results. I wanted to post some pics before adding the motor and tranny, which should go on next week. The only thing left to do is fix a thread that I stripped out, just waiting on the M22x1.5 Helicoil kit.
On to the pics
So the frame members were all blasted down to bare metal, then painted with Por15 with a top coat of Chassis Coat Black.
All new seals in the witches hats. Replaced one broken actuator.
All the hydraulic slaves were rebuilt and painted with Caliper paint.
The hydraulic and brake lines were flushed, cleaned and painted aluminum.
Replaced one bad bearing in the outer shaft on the rear axle.
Cleaned some rust off of the hand brake and painted the pivot components.
Replaced seals in the Hi Low gear box.
The wheels were sent out, blasted and powder coated. The color is a bit off, from what I wanted but they will be fixed at a later date, maybe camo'd.
Anyways it's been a lot of work, a little at a time when time permits. After the motor and tranny gets mounted, it's on to the body.

I'll echo all of the above sentiments!!! That is one thorough job!
I laughed when I saw Todd's comments about not enough; patience, time, work space, knowledge, money...It's like he read my mind!!
Great...now I have Pinzgauer Inadequacies...

Thanks for all the kind words and I didn't intend to cause such Pinzgauer envy. There are a lot of pics out there but very few of the chassis in detail, so I will be taking some more detailed pictures and adding them to the pinz_depot web page. It's nice being able to see all the details without years of oil and crud build-up. I'll concentrate on the mechanical details as much as I can.
Other than sending the wheels out for powder coating, I've done all the work myself. It has been a challenge at times, but well worth the time and effort. Can't wait to get started on the body, so much left to do.
Again glad you all approve.

Looks like you'll have the first Pinzgauer entry at Pebble Beach next summer! Very impressive job. I thought we all hated Middlebury_Pinz because of his extensive restoration but it looks like we have a new target!
Looking for next new (for me) toy

When you get done it'll be brand new! My bet is that the first scratch will be from a shopping cart and not trees! Then you will need wax, armorall, and tire dressing..
Very nice job! Having done similar resto's before, the hours and attention to detail involved are not fully appreciated except for those who have been there. Awesome

Got the Motor and Trans mounted.
Also got started on the undercoating, Didn't remove any of the original coating that was still intact. Only a few areas looked in need of repair, but wanted a full even coat over it all.
Undercoat is still in progress but should be done early next week.
