That step is low enough for even my 84 year old stepmother to use. As if I'd even let her get near my Pinzgauer !

I was thinking about making some hub steps - any advice on metal thickness to use so that there is enough clearance between the hub and the wheel?

I made mine from a 1 1/2 inch floor flange with 1 piece of pipe. Then welded on a piece of expanded mesh for grip.
I used a 12 inch pipe nipple and cut it into two even pieces so there was threads on each end to screw into the flange. I drilled a hole (fits a Phillips screwdriver shaft) at the end to spin it off in the event I was going through very rocky areas. Total cost $12.
The floor flange can be sourced at your local hardware store (HD or Lowes for me) and it is the perfect thickness for a fit between the wheel and the drum.

i wonder what would happen if i attached streamers to them???

They would go round and round and get tangled up. Put the streamers on the door handles or the antennas.
...and then get some spinner hub caps for the wheels. Paint the wheels gold and the top red.

You can get some play-doh and put it on the hub. Put the wheel back on and tighten the lug nuts.

Then remove again and measure the thickness of the play-doh.

...or you could use calipers or a micrometer for inside dimensions. I did not have play-doh at the time I made mine. Interesting idea though.

I like the design of your entry step. Do you think it will work for the rear doors on a K? If so I am interested in getting a pair.

If I recall the K does not have the same "lip" that the front doors have. The lip is required to hook the step on. My wife is still rockin her steps when she goes with me in the pinz.
