can anyone tell me about a swiss replacement body?
or body improvements?

im looking into buying a pinz and one guy brought to my attention a small angle bracket on the rear of the truck and he says this is evidence that the body was replaced with an improved body from the swiss?

is there any truth in this?

"Improved Body" no, replaced body yes. The trucks that have those brackets have had the rear body replaced during a factory refurb. The brackets were used to hold the body in the fixture on re-assembly. It is somewhat of a benefit as normally a truck that has had the body replaced theoretically MAY have a better body. Nothing for sure, but as a general rule the trucks with a body that is 20 years old is better than one 35 years old.

right. thats what i saw but my question was really is this a selling feature? is there any reason to believe this would be better than any other pinz? or is a a good condition original just as good as a good condition body thats been replaced?

I have those things and have been wondering what device or feature they were for, and is the hole for some light or whatever.

Now another question has been answered. Every day some new piece of information. Wahoo.

I have a 1975 710M Radio truck and it too has the bracket on the rear. Also under the drivers seat the body has been stamped 49/87, I have been told that this is when the body was replaced in my case the 49th body in 1987, is this correct?

My 71 710k has those brackets, does this mean the bottom half is new/refurb, or the whole thing? (seems to be more surface rust on the top half than the bottom, it is minor and actually there just is none at all on the bottom half)
Just an observation and at risk of upsetting people who own the very newest Pinzgauers. Has anyone else taken the trouble to just rap (with their knuckles) on the body of one of the new ones (as used by the Brit Army) Sorry guys but they are 'tinny' as hell, I know that there is not much opportunity, but next gathering try a comparison. Maybe you just can,t get that grade of metal anymore or maybe at a sensible price? (I,m not a metallurgist maybe someone will tell us that modern metal is so good you can make it thinner?) I just know that My Pinz feels like My 72 Merc 200D used to when you rapped on the metal...solid!

My guess is thar 49/87 would stand for the 49th week in 1987,just a guess.

Always let the truck speak for itself. I have seen rebodied rotboxes, and mint condition originals. In GENERAL, the rebodied trucks tend to be in better shape. This IS NOT a hard and fast rule. Over the last 12 years at the auctions, one of the items on my inspection sheet was a checkbox for rebodied. It is simply an additional piece of information in the buying process.

49/87 is the 49th week of 1987. I am basing this on the fact I have had a couple of trucks side by side that had the same identical stamp.
