Pinz at the Drag Strip
a friend rented our local dragstrip for a b-day. for some unknown reason, they were...ummm...reluctant to let me run. i then pointed out that ive seen golf carts, quads, gators, side-by-sides, mopeds, trikes and on several occasions, a ghoul bus (jet powered school bus at halloween) and a cool bus (the same jet powered school bus - not on halloween) and even a few cops and/or ambulance races. so why not a Pinzgauer then?!! so, after resigning the waiver (im guessing signing it twice sealed the deal) i was allowed a run. they laughed so hard when i finally made it back from run 1 that they let me run again. check out the pics...and before anyone says anything, both reaction times are bad because BOTH runs had the same employee jibber-jabbering at me as he triggered the lights. ever try to hear what someone is saying to you when you are sitting in a Pinz?!! when the green triggered, it was all i could do to just put it in gear and go...
run 1 - i started in 1st low (just for fun), shifted through 5th low, then to 3rd high through 5th (yeah, 5th was right at the light).
run 2 - i started in 2nd high and, again, hit 5th right at the light.
run 1 - 31.134 @ 43.93 mph
run 2 - 26.978 @ 46.51 mph
several rental cars werer there to beat up on. the v6 camaro was who i "raced". he won. an ss camaro was also on hand, a couple vettes (not rentals), mustang gt. the Pinz was the awesome-ist though. all i can say is i now have a better understanding of why i get flipped off all the time when i drive it around town. i mean, its slow...i know that...but d@mn!
neither run could be considered full throttle or spirited but i seriously doubt it could much quicker. i believe the gauntlet has now been thrown...

Re: Pinz at the Drag Strip
Did you try it on both lanes? Everyone knows there's a fast lane and a slow lane on the track
eat, sleep, Pinzgauer
Re: Pinz at the Drag Strip
It may be slow on the dragstrip but I'd like to see a Mustang, Camaro etc tackle a hard 4WD track......I wonder who would be laughing then

I would have thought that the wing on the back end would have improved your times.
Maybe you should have folded down the front windshield....

I think it's the tires.

Did you warm up your tires first? Did you use four wheel lock? Spinning your tires makes you slower you know.

Try again with a pair of slicks...krick3tt wrote:I think it's the tires.
Or to quote a recurring dragstrip afficionado phrase: "What were your elevation and DA"?

Also, the camber is wrong. You need to somehow lower the rear end so the angle is close to zero while keeping the weight down with less gas and a lighter driver.
Re: Pinz at the Drag Strip
BTW, I kinda like the extra right-side mirror, especially since I don't have an inside one as the view is usually blocked.

Did a double-take on seeing the first picture - thought you used an aerofoil to slow down!!
Re: Pinz at the Drag Strip
We should have taken these two down to the drag strip. To end the question once and for all which is faster 710 or 712.
No dragstrip though just a Walmart Parking lot.
