Decoding a 7 digit Pinz VIN
Decoding a 7 digit Pinz VIN
Sorry if this has been asked before, I did read through 11 pages of search results before posting.
Is there any way to get build information from a 7 digit VIN for a 1984ish 712M?
Obviously you can get 17 digit decoders all over the internet.
Thanks.
Mick

Short answer, no, as far as I know.
You might get info from the factory. But to my knowledge, conforming VINs were implemented during the '80s and always were 17-digit. Prior to that, it's pretty much specific to that manufacturer.

Cheers, might try to contact the factory then.

Factory can give you your original build sheet for fee.
Best way to do it

Re: Decoding a 7 digit Pinz VIN
I think the 7 digit VINs are very simple - the first three digits seems to be the series (i.e. 710 or 712) and the next four are the serial production number. At least on the swiss pinzies this seems to be the case.
Re: Decoding a 7 digit Pinz VIN
Mine doesn't follow that format.
First 3 digits are 470.
Maybe they used a new prefix for each country they supplied to?

My 712 is Austrian manufacture, first three are 475.

I requested a build sheet on my vehicle yesterday and the fee is a whopping 90 Euro!!!TechMOGogy wrote:Factory can give you your original build sheet for fee.

When I first read the post I thought it said "free", but I should have known.
What does the build sheet include? Is it worth the euros?

Typically the identification of your vehicle and all special details, features and included options. What does the build sheet include?
Pretty subjective question. What's it worth to you. That's all that matters here, IMHO.Is it worth the euros?
(I'll go out on a limb here and speak for the group to say that none of us are curious enough about it to pony up the Euros. )

But the build sheet also gives irrefutable proof from the Manufacturer of the build date; I think some people have used this proof of build date to their advantage when insuring or licensing. If you are in this situation, the cost might be well worth it.

Good point, Jim. That hadn't crossed my mind.

Who did you contact? I used the general query link on the website and heard nothing back yet.GRCameron wrote: I requested a build sheet on my vehicle yesterday and the fee is a whopping 90 Euro!!!

Re: Decoding a 7 digit Pinz VIN
That is the link I followed. I received an answer the next day. In my message I included the vehicle number from the door placard and some other numbers from the body placard next to the driver's seat at the door opening.ako wrote:Who did you contact?
