Pinz turn signal switch = VW type II switch

Post by milesdzyn »

I just got a turn signal switch that looked real close to the pinz switch.

Image
Top is the switch out of my Pinz, Below is the VW switch dismantaled

They are identical down to the wiring colors. The only diffrence is the handle is 1" longer - yes it even has the hi/low beam toggle

It was listed as a VW Type II turn signal switch used from '68 to '71 poss. part # 211 953 513 G

I've also seen them listed as used for:
SWF turn signal, indicator switch for Bus -
Volkswagen VW bug beetle Kaefer Käfer split window cox 1200 Oval Ovali Brezel KDF Porsche 356 A B C 911 Mercedes SL Ponton Pagode 180 190 220 300 Bus Bully Transporter Adac T1 T2 barndoor Samba Karmann Ghia Typ

Hey Miles
Well done on this 'un.
These turn signal switches are getting like parrots teeth!

Guys I suggest you all keep a note of Miles' info for the future as trying to fix the original unit in a Pinz when it goes south is a chore.
Good info Miles

Yeah! T-Lo was looking into the same issue this week! Hope VW (or aftermarket sources related) have a bunch of them! At least the wrecking yards would be a possible less expensive source...
Thanks!

I use a VW Bus switch on my Pinz since mine went south last year...

As soon as a I saw the first Pinz switch I knew the Bus switch had a great chance of fitting

As luck would have it I was able to scarf one up via eBay last week. I should get it installed later this week and hopefully my "demon turn signal" issue goes away! I would not wish these turn signal issues on any Pinz owner because there were only so many 68-71 buses imported and it is a pain in the arse!

Just remove the diodes you installed and everything should work just fine.
Remember, Diodes only allow power to flow one way, if installed backwards no power will pass through

My turn signal rarely self cancels when I straighten the wheel. Is there a cam adjustment somewhere? I've looked and don't see anything.

There is a nub on the steering shaft that trips the return fingers(see switch pic in earlier post), if the switch is loose it will not cancel
