Stuck Distributor

Post by MLyeder »

I am trying to install a PinzSSI ignition, but can't get the distributor out.
It is frozen in solid, doesn't turn or move in any direction.
The bolts are loose and I have been applying liquid wrench to it, but no luck.

Anyone have any tips/suggestions on what to do or not do to get it loose?

Thanks for any help.

Not an uncommon problem. I had one that took me 2-3 days of penetrating oil and many taps using a hammer and a wood block to protect the distributor. Try taping in one direction and than the other. Also if you can find a large hardwood dowel you may be able to tap it from beneath. Once it begins to move keep applying the oil and alternating the directions of tapping. If it comes up slightly, add more oil and then tap it down again to help the oil penetrate. Once out I cleaned the opening with 000 steel wool and then lightly oiled it to stop any new rust.
Good luck and be patient.
