oil cooler removal

Post by ziegler »

Today I will remove the oil cooler to replace the base gasket and the 2 O rings between the thermostat housing and the cooler. Do I need to remove the dip stick housing and if so., does it just turn ccw? Sorry if I'm over complicating things. Any info appreciated. Zig

The dipstick tube just pulls out, there is an o-ring at the base.
Would be a good idea to replace that one as well while your at it.

It is fairly easy to remove the dipstick tube, just one bolt clamping it in place at the top and as Ron said it just pulls straight out at the base. Ditto on the "o" ring. They get dried out and hard and eventually show some seepage.

It's also a great opportunity to clean out the fins of the oil cooler. Amazing what can build up in there over time.
