He's on the wrong US border... Cal welcomes all and gives them driver's licenses and welfare.... though he may have to fake speaking Spanish
Well French Canadian can pass easily for mock mexican I guess! :) Even the French don't understand us!! :)

For the Tyres, and everything else, I should get the truck in about 3 weeks from now and I am planning some major house renovations and a trip in France for about a month ( mid September to mid October)
So the truck will stay pretty much the way it is now, with whatever tyres it comes with!
Comes next spring I think I will change the tyres, add/ install a winch, mostly to pull tree stems out of the wood, and replace the ignition.
By the way, I own already a capstan winch with 2200 lbs of pull.
Of course not sufficient to get a Pinz out of mud, but perfect to retrieve trees and clean up trails of heavy debris. I have been using this little guy ( about 12 pounds!) for more than 10 years now on a forest plot I have (38,000 square meters plus)
The year after, I am thinking of installing Fuel injection but I am not to sure about this one.
Realistically, the truck will see somewhat rough terrain perhaps, but nothing very serious, and I estimate about 5-8 thousands kilometers per year at most.
So it is really a recreational vehicle that will get me somewhat further the end of the beaten trail for most people.
With Mocki, my white husky/sammoyed companion! :) Arf arf!

Kinda funny about the customs comments. We just returned this week from a vacation to the Canadian Gulf Islands. 27 of our family and friends on 3 vessels. When leaving the U.S. we headed from Anacortes, WA to Bedwell Harbor and Poets Cove to handle the Canadian Customs Entry. Pulled in tied the vessels up and walked up to the customs phones. Called in, gave the information over the phone to Canadian customs. Customs Officers walk out of their office, tell us to have a safe trip in Canada, climb onto their own launch and leave. Polite, Courteous, and very uninterested in our party. Only fun was the agent on the phone asking how the hell we were handling 27 family without a lot of beer! No inspections, nothing.

6 Days later after some cruising we head back into Friday Harbor, WA to cross back into the U.S. My kids had opted to ride on one of the other vessels, and I had forgotten and had their passports with me. We tie-up on the customs dock and one of the adults walks over to our vessel to grab my kids passports. I spent the next 10 minutes getting an ass chewing by U.S. Customs about them confiscating our boat, our party violating their procedures. We were to have ZERO interaction with anyone once we arrived. Smile and apologize and eventually all was fine, but there was 2 completely different mindsets between the 2 border agencies.......

Coming into Canada we were tourists. Coming back to the States we were criminals, until proven innocent.

Sort of makes staying home very attractive. We almost always take a yearly vacation to Europe but it is getting very complicated/uncomfortable to travel and depending on the country, somewhat expensive (air fare). Being a tourist can be very entertaining and a lot of fun seeing places and things that are only in books.
Not regretting staying home this year and just enjoying my own country as there is so much to see, That being said, travel is a great experience and I do relish the ability to see the world. Almost all foreign customs experiences have been very favorable for us, coming back can be a challenge. Have not been to Canada or Mexico in many years. Thinking Canada, as I have friends there.

Travel safe.

I will presume that this Pinz is Swiss, that's all Karl had when I got mine and I don't think he imported any Austrian models. I could be wrong of course. On another note that David mentioned, do check the windscreen. I know that mine is not the "good", laminated kind and it was not noticed in the safety.

Welcome Luc!

I have, as well, been traveling through Europe and Asia over the past decade, but have slowed things down to small U.S. trips (Vegas, Arizona, NYC, etc.) as well as Mexico. International travel is getting to be a hassle (or always was and now I just don't like it!). Let's be honest, I just hate being on a flight for 12 - 24 hours at a time. That stinks!

IT'S HERE! IT'S HERE!! :D
While going to the supermarket, i just stopped at Karl's garage and there it was!
My Pinz, bought unseen, has just arrived this morning in his garage and as I was going to the supermarket I stopped by to see if it was there and he was working on it with one of his mechanics and both were marveling at how in good condition it is.

I tought at first this was some car dealer hogwash, but I know Karl better and while reviewing it I did concur, this one is in impecable condition considering it is 42 years old!
And for those wondering, it has the 'CH' sticker in the back!
It's a '72 but in my excitement I did not look at the odo! But I think it's about 52000km
But it is truly a gem!
No rust whatsoever on the body, the canvas are in very good condition except for some holes in the plastic 'windows' at the rear, the tyres are in quite good conditions to the point that I think I will keep them at least up until next year.
So for this year, it will see a little light service, a bit of camping in the not too rough, learning how to drive well the beast and trying to control that stupid grin from ear to ear! :).
Next step for Karl is completing the duty paperwork, preparing the truck for the 'Société Automobile du Québec' inspection, and for me securing the rest of the money!

The truck is really in a fine shape, once I get it I will post photographs of it.... in details!

Nice! Were you able to establish point of origin with Karl?

I did not discuss about that.... too excited I guess! :)

But on the back there is a the white oval sign with a 'CH' in it!

No rust, no dent, fairly clean, the batteries are not new but looks recent, there is the tool and spare kits, the tyre chains are there in a canvas bag, the muffler is stainless steel! nice! I don't know if this means that the cab heater will work on this one ha ha :)
On the other hand, given the last two winters we had, with weeks on end of -25 to -35°C I am thinking seriously of installing a wood stove in it! :) nothing else will heat it

It seems to miss the rear benches, or maybe they were not installed yet... The mechanic was putting it back together as they dismantle a few things so it takes the less space possible in the shipping container. And usually, they put stuff in the trucks, also to save container space.
Wait and see, it's not a deal breaker if they are not there, but I wish they are for it makes a nice flat surface to carry big things around...

I should get it in about 2 weeks from now... some paper work and the DOT inspection to clear it for sale for Karl, and some bank issues on my side to solve.

Hi there,

Oval CH sticker is Switzerland. Nice! I'm sure you can barter with Karl for seats.

Close enough, but actually it's "Confoederatio Helvetica", in latin so that the German-, French-, Italian- and Rumantsch- speaking communities that make up Switzerland don't have something more to argue about! The full name is on Swiss coins as well.

Darn!
The truck is paid, it passed the SAAQ (Société d'assurance Auto du Québec) our version of DOT) with a perfect score, accises taxes are paid, I can get the plates anytime IF I can find a damn insurance company that will cover it (civil and damages to others)
This is a bit frustrating isn't it!?
It is absolutely forbidden to drive a vehicle, even 'just a little' without proper insurances. You can get deported, put in prison and shot at dawn if you ever get caught! ( of course I am speaking financially  )

Until I sort out this issue, no truck! :?

By the way GenevaPinz, I really like your avatar with the P-40 Warhawk ''shark'' face! :)

Beautifull! I think I will steal the idea if you permit, and if you don't, I will steal it anyway  Only I will have remorse and burn in hell
