My trip to get my PINZ and drive it home
I'm guessing
From the info you provided I can't see how an oil filter without a hole in it did what you describe. I would guess that perhaps you changed it and in the meantime the ice in the air filter melted so you thought it was the oil filter...

Sorry guys
- I didn't have my reading glasses on. I meant to type FRAM AIR FILTER, but put in oil instead
.
He told me too pull out the seats take the cover off, pull off the filter cover and I needed a 13 mm wrench from the tool kit. He said pull the FRAM AIR filter out. He said I would see oil dripping down at the carbs. Clean as much as I can and then said "put the filter cover back on button it up and it would run a bit blue for a bit until it all burn't off and he would see me in Golden. If I had anymore problems to give him a call....he is amazing. I couldn't believe when I pulled out the filter it was a FRAM. That was it. Ran like a top, but my heart was doing back flips when I saw the smoke I will tell you.
Again I appologize for the typo

Not sure yet
because I didn't want to overload Dennis with questions right now. If you know Dennis and his shop, he and his gang and Linda run FLAT OUT ALL FRIGGIN DAY. The last thing they need right now is me asking a ton of questions when they are trying to solve all the problems of the world for their customers. When I was there yesterday I had a headache starting just watching the gang at work, but to Dennis and Linda's credit they all seem HAPPY to be there serving others. Sure it's a jog but somehow they have turned it into FUN mostly. I don't know about you but fixing vehicles can be a pretty frustrating and fickle busness.
He asks alot but gives more. A true leader.
Side bar:
In my internet busness we teach LEADERSHIP DEVELOPENT FIRSTLY and then we couple that with an online business to make significant changes to your bank account (if you do the work - nothing is free and change is needed), but it's dooable. We teach leadership and it is not appointed it is earned. You earn it by doing (just approach a horse if you don't believe me) , setting the example to follow and serving others and not expecting to be served...(not preaching...just explaining).
All to many times now people get in positions of authority without earning the right to be in the position PERIOD. I have supervisors and they think I should bow down to them because they makemore money or are higher up the FOOD CHAIN.. more education etc...sorry, but I just don't by into it. That causes REAL problems for me as you can well imagine.
Anyway I think Dennis and Linda (in the short time I have known them) are a completely different kind of people. They are leaders even if they don't know it.
I will see if I can get Dennis to answer this FRAM thang on this thread for everyoneone ok.....then maybe we can put it in the tech one. I trust his judgment. Best experience is someone elses who has gone before,,been successful and most of all HAS DONE IT RECENTLY.
If you want to cross a mine field foloow somone who has done it before RECENTLY....they could have been there and added some mines if you get my DRIFT.
So to end this:
Have have been busy just trying to STAY OUT OF HIS WAY while they have been doing the work on her.
Should be ready in a couple of hours hopefully and I can get on the road.
Mike Kinsey is coming to pick me up at the hotel so I can check out and we will go find some RECOVERY stuff..lookout credit card oooooch
Talk at you all soon.....

So I am still here. Have the 24 volt disconnect switch is faulty and won't turn off and it has many shorts (most of them are fixed now, but a few more to check out. Have some dash lights that aren't working so he will check them out later. Anyway Dennis and the crew have put in a long day to try and get the stuff all tidied up. Maybe here until Monday cause they are closed tomorrow and he needs some rest and I won't ask him to work Sunday...
Webasto - 260 degrees f HOT...GREAT. So he is going to get some extra ducting for the feet done monday I think.
FILTER - He says the fram is a good filter but not for this application
problem: Holes are too small and ice up easily but the worst part is the folds are toooo thick and don't allow enough air through them PERIOD. He said if he puts it on the scope and checks the emissions you can see the emmisoins drop when you take the filter out (runs toooo rich with it in)
So any AMERICAN made filter will work fine. Diamond shaped larger holes stop it from freezing up and the extra air flow helps it run better.
Maybe Dennis can elaborate on this later.
That's the latest in my quest to get her home. Hoped to get out of here today cause it was georgous, but looks like the weather is about to turn real bad so we will see how the trip continues.
We will do the draw later - way to busy right now

Wow Jer Bear, quite the trip!! I bought my 1973 710M from Sean at Euro Truck about two years ago and drove it home to Iowa from Georgia. I also had a run in with law enforcement. I got stopped by an Illinois state trooper because " I was driving a military vehicle wearing civillian clothes." Well after showing him all of my paperwork and drivers license, he let me go on my way. I just think this guy was bored and wanted a closer look at my Pinz!!!
Keep the travel log coming, I love the stories.

Yipper. Well I hope to be on my way by noon today. Just some minor stuff to do to the Webasto and this will give my some heat up front in the foot wells.. Anyway the heat out of this heater is amazing. I think I could heat a pot of soup off the rear heater. I will take some pics when it's done.
Weather turned from +70 to 29 today and 4" of slushy snow.

Some delays but I should get outta here tonight LATE
CONTEST:
We will make the draw this morning when I can slow down the (vapour trail)..that would be Dennis. We ended up working on her yesterday...not what I wanted him to do, but he wants to get me on the road. I have to teach on the 10th so I will be doing some major driving to get home in time.
That song "six days on the road" will be playing in my head soon. Going to load up at Safeway and get some groceries for the road and I will have to stop some where and get a foamy for the back so I can sleep in her.
Gotta run.....

contest WEINER - just kidding WINNER
You too Mike it was nice to meet you. I met John at the shop - seems real nice..
We have a winner and yes I am still here, but I will be on my way soon (just need to define soooooooooooon). They have modified the heating ducts so I can put heat in the back the front or mixed all using the motor and the Webasto.. I will have an eyeball vent in the foot well and I can direct it anywhere. The remote start for it has been ordered...need that up where I live.
Dennis has been slaving away with his guys on this to ty something they haven't done before. Hopefully you guys can bebefit from this install in the future.
SO THE WINNER IS - todds112 - so if you can pm me and give my some info we can get your prize to you ok
Thanks again for participating in the contest everyone. I think it was good to get the thinking caps on and if not maybe we all learned something.
Again Congrats to todds112-critter-undyworld for nailing the problem
Jer Bear over and out for now
