Looking for other ideas. I have a plastic disc which a GPS mount screws onto. The dash is nice and flat and made of metal.
Option one: which I'm trying right now, is to use "Museum Wax". I fear it won't be strong enough but was talked into trying. I'm testing to see how it holds up tomr. after letting it set for 24 hours.
Option two: Embed a few rare earth magnets in the disc, held in with epoxy. Researching about them affecting the GPS haven't turned up anything negative yet.
Option three: 3M double-sided mounting tape or pads.
Option four... ?
I'd like to use screws but don't want to mess up a dash that isn't that easy to find a replacement for. I don't want to use a friction mount or suction cups.
Attaching a GPS to the dash, but how?

I have a phone case and stuck on a quad lock mount using 3m vhb 2-sided tape and it is great. Let it stick together for a few days before testing the bond.

Magnets will not cause an issue with a GPS - I would look at that solution and it allows for moving it easily later on if you find a reason to.

Velcro with one side sticky - works fine.

I mounted a mini DVR onto the Pinz window with a suction cup mount, never fell off and has
the advantage of quick removal. Magnets should do the same.
You only need to worry abut the magnet influencing any built in compass, smart phone typically
use Magnetoresistive type devices -- they'll go bonkers.
BTW I use Tap Plastics potting Epoxy for projects like this, sets fast, low shrinkage, and doesn't
stink to high heaven.

You could make a bolt on bracket that is attached the the bolt that holds the windscreen strap/plate on.
