Re: General Question that don't search well.

Pinzgauer is about the same, but the maintenance is very specific. Jeeps don't have dust boots or portal axles, but the exhaust manifold on a Pinzgauer rarely cracks. :) The portal axles are just 4 more oil reservoirs to fill up. it also has hydraulic locking hubs contolled with big levers from ...

Re: Batteries

@rmel ... you're probably right. I decided that since I really rarely do much hard-core 4-wheeling that a regular "inexpensive" battery set might be best. I replace them both, even if only 1 is showing problems. They only cost about $120 a few years ago ... probably closer to $200 now, but the ...

Re: DIN AUX 24V socket

That's a good match. I found that BMW made a perfect match too, but it was about twice the price at $20.

Re: Fuel pump replacement

You probably already did it by now ... but ... watch that little ceramic or weird brown plastic piece. What do they call that brown plastic-like stuff? Bakelight? lol It's relatively fragile. If you drop it on the floor it will crack or shatter.

Re: Batteries

Experience ... lol. I found that standard AGM batteries will work just fine in the Pinzgauer, but you have to handle the imbalance somehow, topping off, balancer, isolator, whatever system you want.

Also, don't expect them to last more than 4 years ... maximum. It happens that sometimes they'll go ...

Re: Exhaust pipe temperature

I'm pretty sure Chickenpinz solution should work. If you pull one plug, the idle changes, then when you pull the hot pipe cylinder I'm betting the change will not be significant because it sounds like you have fuel mixture igniting inside the header. There's not a lot you can do that would be cheap ...

Re: Batteries

This entire discussion seems a little derailed.

A battery can throw 11.5 volts, or even 12.x, on a standard voltmeter and not be able to crank an engine. It's the amperage that counts most. If the battery is bad, and not showing obvious signs, the only real way to test it is under load. The ...

Re: Stupid me.

Exactly what Rmel said. Clean all the battery connections and the connections on the cuttoff switch with a wire brush. Also, the connectors between the batteries and the cutoff switch are made of metal mesh and they do age and corrode. They probably look like dark grey metal mesh. If you buy a $7 ...

I also wish I could help on this, but I have never taken that apart. I need to grease mine as it sounds like it's completely dry from 1st to 2nd and sometimes 2nd to 3rd.

Re: Another source of noise

I gave some injured veterans a ride home from the VA car show a number of years ago. They all thought that there was no lubrication in the transmission because it was so noisy. I'm not sure they believed me when I told them I had literally just changed all the fluids about 3 months prior. There's ...

Damn! That is easily the best cover I have ever seen. Where can I get one??? It beats the hell out of the Swiss Army logo blanket I lay across the center.

You could always replace the shielded wire with a standard one just for timing, then swap them back again.

Re: Starter sometimes fails to engage

This string covers a lot of the issues. One major one is that your mount might be cracked. The new starters put out a lot more torque than the OEM, and if your mount is cracked you cannot see it unless it is under torque. The rubber holds the pieces from bending so far as to break. So, you possibly ...

Re: Help Removing Flywheel Bolts

Just be sure when you replace them you use NEW bolts. Those are supposedly 1-time use bolts. When you tighten them you tighten them to the torque in the book, and then you go another 1/4 turn to stretch the bolt. At least, that was my understanding.

Re: Wheel stud replacement

I haven't seen this subject in quite a long time. A lot has to do with the wheel stud holes. If you are getting new wheels, contact hummerproducts.com and check to see their lug nuts. If the holes in your wheels need to be adjusted, it might help. We used an extruded/extended thread stud. Has been ...
