I only sanded the surface, no special treatment with primer.
I've used a Kevlar scissor to cut the raw fabric and a small angle grinder (Proxxon LHW 28547) to cut the excess on the dog house.

I would recommend replacing the timing cover gasket (7101010141) as well.

It's not normal, but I think most of the pinzgauers have at least a bit of oil in the Central tube.
