Need help now-Back fire in high gear

Hope some one can give me advice. I am 4 hrs from home with my pinz. All was good. I was cruising 55 to 60 when suddenly I lost some power. Speed dropped 10 miles an hour and started having periodic back fire. I limped to the nearest town, fortunately, and am hoping for some advice.

Any ideas??

Check for a loose or fouled spark plug.

Check carb link ends, I had a rod come off the back carb on one trip before I switched to EFI.

Thanks for the replies. Its nice to be able to ask questions on the road.

I woke up the next morning and took her for a ride. No Symptoms!! Almost wish there was. I did check the plugs. Clean as a whistle. Checked the fuel filter. It really didn't look clogged or dirty, but I changed it any ways. The symptoms happened right after refueling so I added some fuel dry. She ran fine for the rest of the trip. I am thinking about draining the fuel.

However, you know what they say, "When it rains it pours." I have a small puddle of fluid below my clutch pedal. It appeared the first day of my trip. What are your thoughts??
Master cylinder maybe.

If it is Brake Fluid it is your mater cylinder, but if it is gear oil it is your stearing box. I have had a time getting mine all tightend up this past year...Before taking the whole thing out to rebuild with new seals and everything, just try tightening it up first. There are some 17mm bolts (i think they are pretty big). Crank on them to see if the leak goes away first before tearing into it.

I think all mine needed was a little tightening and I took the whole thing out!

Likely also to be a leaking clutch master cylinder; then it dribbles down the clutch pedal, leaving a puddle on the floorboards. Rebuild kits are not expnsive (~$20 I think) and arn't too hard to do.

Had to do this for one of my two trucks. Just check to see whether the brake or clutch resevoir is low.

You are exactly right. That is what is happening. Rebuild kit is on the way.

I am still worried about my gas tank. I am wondering if I am not experiencing some deterioration from the lining. Noticed some particles in the old filter. Not enough to clog it though.
