Happen to see this by chance. Not connected to it. The power steering thing is a brain fart I assume.

I find Pinz Ads almost as comical as some Ural Ads. They are either ignorant to the facts, which is a cautionary note in itself. or they are blatant lies. There is not much in between.

4 wheel drive is greater than Rovers and Hummers and at a fraction of the cost to purchase and maintain.
Fraction of the cost ......to maintain?

As often as my old SIII Rover broke something, I could almost agree but damn was that thing easy to work on.

crazy that i live right here in tulsa but have never seen this truck. in fact, with 10 or more supposedly around the "metro" area, i have only seen 1 in all my ramblings, and that one belonged to a friend of mine.

if anyone is interested, i can go take a look at it. i may go look anyway. im by no means a pinz expert but ive had one since 1999 (2000?) and pretty much know what to look for...

Hey guys I'm new here. I've been looking to buy a pinz for a while now and have talked to the man in Tulsa about his. What do y'all think about it? If it wouldn't be to much trouble for you to go look at it and let me know what you thought it sure would help. I'm in Alabama and I'd be flying out to drive it 600 miles home. It would be good to have someone else's opinion on its road worthiness. Thanks

I have looked at their website pretty regular. Seems like the ones they have that are in decent shape are kinda high. There is a guy in Atlanta that has a 710 and a trailer pretty reasonable. Starter is being rebuilt. Soon as it is done I'm gonna go see it.

Chris,

That would be great if it isn't to much trouble. I have his name and number. If I can figure out this forum stuff I will send it to you in a private message. I'd hate to fly out there to buy it and it not be what he said it is. He seems like a nice guy and I'm sure he is telling me the truth about everything. He said he has owned it for 11 years. Thanks a lot.

Ok, I went by and checked out this Pinz yesterday evening and am reporting back as promised. Also, I begin every post like this apologizing for my lack of succinctness…I come from a long line of babblers.

In my opinion, this is a very nice Pinz and would make a great purchase. Period.

Exterior/Interior/Body: little to no rust…basically no rust at all but I’m sure there are small spots somewhere, I just didn’t see any. Air tunnel looked fine although difficult to see (foam, etc.) in there without a flashlight. Doors shut properly (i.e. didn’t rattle, flush with body, straight etc.) and seals still look good. No rust around seat mounts, none in floor, none in bed, none around gas can or gas tank, none around tool/battery boxes. No noticeable dents either, everything is straight. Seat bottoms in front are the newer style and are in great shape, font seat backs in good shape, rubber straps still fine. Seats in the bed are stock but all have really nice seat belts installed. Dash/controls all appear to be functional and in good shape. Engine cover has one repair that I saw but is in otherwise great condition (no cracks, chips, etc. – I wish mine was like that!). Glass is all in good shape although I forgot to verify if the windscreen is safety glass or not…sorry. Window seals look good too. All lights work fine, including map light.

Engine/gear box/etc.: He fired it up and we drove around the block a few times. No smoke, engine sounds great, started right up, ran perfectly, very quiet, very smooth. Nothing making bad/loud noises; it just purrs. Gear box was great; quiet, smooth. 4 wheel drive went in and out perfectly & immediately; no lag/delay at all, just functioned as it should. I did not check the lockers…his neighborhood is all curvy asphalt/concrete and perfect yards around his house and I didn’t want to ask him to put unnecessary stress on the driveline/diffs etc. I’ll probably catch grief about something this important but, with that said, I truly believe there are no issues at all with the lockers. If these need to be checked prior to a purchase, I can probably arrange for him to meet me on some dirt/gravel road somewhere and we can check them there. I believe he’s had all the valves flushed/cleaned out. No leaks were seen from the wheel hubs, diffs, gear boxes…at all. Oil pan might be leaking (Not warped; probably just needs new gasket, cheap and easy to fix), small leaks from the axel boots which will need to be replaced. These two leaks have splattered oil/gear lube in various places underneath, making it look like a major leak, but both are simple repairs. Prop shaft looked fine/didn’t make noise or vibrate. No scrapes/dents/damage underneath to be seen.

The tool box contains the basic tool kit/pouch thing, a 4-way lug wrench, fuel can nozzle, spare belt, water bucket and a cool grease gun that I’ve never seen in a Pinz before. No light bulb aluminum box thingy but that’s not a deal breaker. I believe he said there are new batteries in the battery box but I forgot to open that up to verify. It does have the shovel/spade. It does not have the axe. It has the upper and lower rifle mounts. It does not have tire chains, the tow cable, the emergency triangle reflector thingy (unless he’s removed these things and put them in the garage). It has the bottle jack but I didn’t verify it works (the important thing is that it’s there; it’s easily rebuilt).
Overall, this is a great vehicle, imo. I’d buy it. The guy that owns it bought it to play around with his kids (thus the rear seatbelts); the kids are now grown and he doesn’t need it anymore. He said hes never really taken it off road, other than a farm, and I believe him. He made no effort to clean or hide anything, which is how I prefer to view a used vehicle; I believe I saw it as its been throughout his ownership. I believe he is a well-educated, professional man and struck me as someone that simply doesn’t have the spare time to even attempt to screw someone around. IOW, he seemed like an honest citizen to me; I wouldn’t hesitate to buy anything from him. He stated that he didn’t drive it much and, when I mentioned I have probably put 70k miles on mine, he said that in the 10 years of ownership he probably hasn’t put 2k kilometers on his. I believe him. It doesn’t appear to have had much use during its lifetime at all; looking underneath, it doesn’t indicate its ever left the asphalt. Bottom line is fix/repair the bad stuff below and you will have a great vehicle.

Things that are bad/must be addressed:

All 4 axle boots must be replaced, all are cracked. This isn’t an optional repair. These are simple to replace, but a slight PITA. If nothing else, There is a guy in Tulsa that works on these; easy repair for him. Honestly, I’m surprised that they are all torn…every single thing on this vehicle screams proper maintenance. But they are, so…well, it is what it is.

The rear top has a 6” tear…the 1st hoop from the cab has worn through on the passenger side. This sounds bad but is a fairly straight forward repair (my top has about 20-30 repairs!). But if you are driving it on the highway, this needs to be addressed before it tears into a major problem. If repaired, then maintained, the top should last for a while. Also, the rear “windows” are a little cloudy (I didn’t see any cracks but can’t guarantee there aren’t any). I’ve had good luck with using the vinyl cleaner/polish on these; I’d bet with a little effort and a few clean rags, they could be restored to a functional state.

Probably needs new oil pan gasket. I would power wash clean, drive around, then check for actual leaks…it might just be lube from the torn axel boots.

Things I forgot to/didnt verify:

Civilian ignition? Windscreen safety glass? Execution II upgrade(s)? Functional lockers?

That’s all I can think of. Please reply with any other questions you might have and I’ll answer to the best of my memory…
