want to trade Lotus 7 for 710M (Ohio)

Post by transalpian »

Greetings!

I am in the market for a 710M, but have an extra car that needs to go first.

It is a Birkin S3 which is a modern version of a Lotus 7. The Birkin has a Ford 2L fuel-injected zetec engine with a close ratio 5 speed transmission and four-wheel disk brakes. The engine makes around 175HP. The car weighs around 1300 pounds. Yes, it's fast. Yes, it handles amazingly. It just doesn't fit my life right now.

I have all the canvas for it (doors, top, and tonneau cover), she runs an electric water pump to reduce parasitic drag on the engine, the starter has been relocated back to the proper location, she has new wheels, nearly new tires, four point drivers harness installed, similar harness for the passenger in a box (currently uses a retractable three point belt), removable steering wheel (two different sizes Momo wheels included), adjustable pedal box, and a goodly number of spare parts. The car has a mild steel tubular chassis with an aluminum skin. The hood is aluminum. The fenders and nose are fiberglass.

And here she is!. I'm 5'10", 265lb. If I can fit in this car, you probably can too.

This is where your 710M comes in.

In a perfect world, your truck has a good running 2.7L engine, no leaks, everything works, has good canvas, has good tires, has DOT lights and glass, a good aux heater, pertronix ignition, civi spark plugs, all four rear benches, and a decent paint job. Ever better if your truck is somewhere near Ohio, but that isn't a huge deal if you live someplace warm.

Anyone interested in trading?

Anyone want to buy the modern version of Colin Chapman's vision?

Birkins like this sell for $20k. As with everyone else, I have more than that into it.

Congrats on the sale. I have an Elise, myself. Hope you got your price.
I'm in Middletown and have owned a really nice 710M for 9 years if you want to have a good look at one. Mine's not for sale, but looks are ok...

Thanks all!

I ended up selling at my listed price (as it was a really good deal). I'm making arrangements to buy Kurt's pinz in Reno and drive it back to Ohio. My daughters and I take an adventure trip every summer. This one should be quite fun.

We're not traveling until June (after my broken leg heals) and I'm already deep in route planning. Must sees include Vegas, Hoover dam, camping at the Grand Canyon, petrified forest, the big Texan restaurant/motel, and Nashville.

I'm planning on 7-8 days back.

Any recommendations?

And I know: 7 days in late June through the high desert with a 10 and 12 year old in a new to me 40 year old truck. What could go wrong?

Hello. I have been looking on Ebay. Now and again some nice examples show up for a reasonable price. I would like the hand set for the back and a headphone and mike for front, myself. I think it would be cool to wear headset in front for hands free type talking and hand set for back so that anyone riding back there could talk to front person. Here is a general search link.

Here are completed listings to get an idea of pricing.

Here is a nice set on ebay now.

Phones like that don't really work very well as the sound level to too high. Best bet for the money, availability and reliability, is a Racal Clansman system, ex-British army. Many venders on eBay and top notch stuff for pennies on the dollar, even with shipping from UK. eBay search Clansman
