yep.....looks like a vw/audi..... Now, next question is do I need that square brown bosch box that says 12 volts. I'll be putting in a PinzSSI and I'm trying to figure out where the first connection has to go.

Can you post a picture of the engine bay? I can't tell what is connected to the brown box. Thanks.

The first connection is a white wire that comes out of the harness on the passenger side, near where the coil would be. When the key is turned on you will have 24 volts, and 0 volts when the key is off.

Ok, here it is....

I would suggest removing the brown box and the green box, and then try to find all the original stock wiring by using the schematic. Remove any unused wires that were added for the non-stock distributor and the ignition system that was added. When you're done with installing the SSI unit you'll have a tidy setup.

Thanks guys, I'll start cleaning up the previous connections. I can't locate the white wire. The attached pictures has all of the wires in different colors but no white, gray is the closest I can find.

BTW, that lone green wire was spliced into the wire that goes to the carb. That lone green wire went into the ignition coil and is reading around 22 volts with the switch on.

I don't know why the green wire is there instead of white, but if it turns off and on with the key, you have the right wire.

Found the white wire! It was attached to the Bosch 12volt relay. What's odd is, there is a loose wire in the battery compartment which I think is the loose wire that goes into that relay. The one covered with electrical tape that is going away from the relay.

I'll take off the wire that was splice into the carb wire.

With PinzSSI, connect the white wire to the yellow wire, then the other end of the yellow wire to the relay and you will essentially have the same thing. Just better looking!

Just making sure if I did everything right. Did I make the correct connections from the battery? Still reading 0 at the relay for connection #2, Connection #3 is also reading 0. Connection #1 is reading around 22volts with the ignition on.

What am I missing that my readings for #2 and 3 are reading 0?

Doesn't the 12 volt connection need to be on the positive side of the single battery?

The instruction and the cover of that battery connector is marked negative.
