Hi all,

Quite some time back a acquired a roll cage for the cab of my 710m from one of our gracious members. I never did install it as I was waiting until I could get it in for powder coat. Well, that time is now. The cage was originally bolted to the floor of a 712m (4 bolts per "leg" on each of the floor pans). and then bolted to the divider wall behind the seats. Easy enough. My thing is, I don't want to drill holes in my floor pan so as to mitigate future rust issues. I have perfect factory undercoat and have visions of moisture and rust creeping in under...well, you get the idea.

So am I being overly paranoid? I know I could seal things up pretty good with some high end product, but would welding be a better bet? Any and all opinions welcome

welding may not introduce a hole but it will introduce heat that will cook off any undercoating that was protecting the under carriage. As well as burning off paint. If your asking a fabricator, bolt holes are easy to weld shut later.

I'm glad its being used! For what its worth, i have had no rust in the holes that are in my truck from that beast. I coated everything quite well with rust inhibitor

Thanks for the replies. Andre, good point, I've decided to take the bolt on route. My brother in law basically told me the same thing about the stress the welding will cause.

Yes, it's about time I got this thing installed! I will seal the seams around the footings and coat it well with some rust preventative material.

Put lots of goo on the area which is going to be under the legs, then install whilst wet. The goo will be squished out along with any air and so seal under the legs better. When dry you can seam seal round the edges.
