This is just a coincidence ,but I thought some of you guys would like to see another military vehicle that has crossed over into the civi world like the Pinz.

The Ural (or urinal as we called it in the UK 30 years ago) was a pretty rough and ready Soviet product like a Belaz or the Moscovitch. Today they got Capitalism, and things have really changed. Its a very international product these days. Although the basic bike is still made in Russia the gear and pinions are made in Austria by HERTZOG, the electrical switches are Italian, and the wiring harness is made in Kansas City. The battery is even an Interstate! Made in the USA.

With gas prices going up and ownership of "rec" vehicles getting for some too expensive to own we have been doing an experiment to gauge existing customer reaction to motorcycles. Sitting in our showroom/reception has been a new Royal Enfield Bullet for the past two weeks. The reaction has been a surprising positive with Landrover owners and Pinz owners alike. Priced at about $6000 on the road, the thing is a great price. Certainly for those wanting to save gas at 85 mpg!
The Ural with driven sidecar wheel is around $10,000 and the price of a Pinz in fair condition. We have several Pinz owners who have them and I have got some glowing responses to it cross country abilities and trail suitability.

So in short I might take the plunge by opening a dedicate dealership for both marques with a separate workshop. Anyone interested to talk bikes or add their experiences are welcome to call or post.

Here's a result of an interesting chat I had with a Pinz owner who also owns a Ural outfit.

Essentailly the both vehicles run at the same speed acceleration, perform very well off road, and have the same quirky problems. He said " just like the Pinz I never go up into the mountains without tools in the sidecar"!

We closed the conversation with a thought. Hows about a shoot out Pinz versus Ural at a Treffen"?!! Good for a laugh I suppose, if nothing else.
