Hey all Just wanted to get everyones opinion on installing a turbo on a 712 I have a small turbo out of a 2.5 engine that i think would work good i figure set the boost at about 4-5 lbs that should add a little power on the long hills and passing the turbo is from a higher rpm motor so it will take a little time to spool up therefore as long as you dont slip the clutch driveline shouldnt be affected I have done a few turbo projects in the past and this seems to be a simple blow through setup ... Looking for about 20 to 30 hp increase

I would have reservations about boosting an air-cooled motor not designed for it. The Pinz has enough issues with the engine heat at the rear cylinders anyway. I know it works on a Porche, but a Porche it aint.

i had some of the same concerns i was thinking of a much larger oil cooler (that worked on my vw project) but suggestions are needed
...dont forget we are talking about a 8-1 motor from the start the heat increase wouldnt be terrible and only for short periods of time

The factory did look at Turbocharging the motor around the same time they looked at increasing the engine capacity to 2.7.
The test units were fitted with Garret or KKK units.

with all turbo projects egt cht should be monitered at all times to keep overheating down it wouldNOT be for full time use maybe theres enough airflow at hiway speed to keep it cool but if not back off a little?

i beleve cold war is working on a turbo for there efi kit

I have seen pics of turbo's fitted to Pinny's in Austria / Germany!
..... so it has been done "successfully"

anyone suggest a good oil port that will pressure in and out )maybe cooler or something )the turbo will be below the motor so there is no gravity to pan

anyone have insite on were to pick up oil and return oil

will turbo looks like finally some one has some pics for you to work off of. let us know haow it works for you as far gas MPG and horse power. Wonder how it would work with Jims EFI? I know dennis is working on a turbo deisel he just needs to snap the whip on his guys to get it completed.

If you are going to go to the trouble for 20 or 30 HP, then think about doing a diesel conversion. Dennis is working on one right now. Other option is try EFI kit first. J

im not doing open heart surgery just adding a turbo a little exhaust work some oil lines and a custom snorkel here is my last turbo project this one went from 57hp 49ft lbs torque to 176hp 204 torque and still 80 ci engine the pinz should be simple
