While I knew the fork was broken in the witches hat off of the Hi-Low gear box, I found that the dry bushing located in the end of the short shaft was worn, almost completely away. The repair manual doesn't say anything about lubrication and since its called a dry bearing I don't know if any is necessary. But since it is spinning metal to metal is there any kind of lubricant that will stay put and not foul the gear oil inside the witches hat?

Also how often should this bearing be wearing out?

It is splash lubricated by the transfer case oil, I pre lube them with vasaline or 140wt gear oil .

I was going over the mechanics in my head, and as long as the front wheels are rolling, thus spining the main shaft, the little stub from the Hi-Low gear box should be spinning in the approx rpm range as well. So it should only have a small amount of slip variance between the two metal parts at normal driving conditions. I think. Of course when the front wheels are engaged there is no slip at all.
