Another fuel gauge question: the naked tab

After sitting for a week, my fuel gauge quit working. Needle doesn't even flicker, but the light does go on.
I'm following the SDP diagnositc steps, and when pulling off the sending unit cover (no small feat under 1/8" of Line-x), I found one wire attached to the tab at the 9:00 o'clock position and none at the 11:00 position.
Am I missing a wire, or is this naked tab to be grounded to one of the screws, or just left alone?

Thanks!!

The extra tab is for a low fuel warning light. Not that the Pinzgauer normally has one (low fuel light) however some have installed their own.

According to VDO, that sender terminal could be used for an "idiot light" low fuel warning. I've never tried it, just read about it.

In my 710K the Eberspacher heater turns off if the fuel gets low.
