I've just been looking at the truck wiring on my 710m to determine the possible ways of wiring a CB in before committing to buying a radio.

I noticed that there's a MIL-DTL-5015 socket behind the passenger seat labelled as 24v. Got the DVM out and it's active when the isolator is on irrespective of ignition state. Turning off the battery isolator does isolate the socket.

What's weird, though, is that it's spot-on 48 volt despite the label being 24v.

Is this expected? Does anyone know the current draw you can legitimately pull from this socket?

Mine is 24V and I use it to supply my 24 to 12 converter to run my CB and radio.
I run the current through a fuse buss that I installed below the air filter (fuse buss is from
my old UniMog supplies). Not being an electrical kind of guy the 48V does confuse me.
Also use it direct for the ARB cooler in 24V mode when traveling, just ran wiring to a plug
through the wall to the rear.

I would think the current draw could be found in the service manual, I think all that kind
of information is in the back of the manual along with torque specs and such?

User error.

It seems that my multimeter battery has died and the meter is recording double voltages for DC inputs. Verified by checking the (known) voltages across several things.

My socket is 24v as designed and labelled

My multimeter needs a new battery.

Mine provides 24v. Can’t imagine how you’re getting a reading of 48v.

24V is right - I use a simple all-in-one dropper to run any 12V gear inc Sat Nav etc.

I'm not sure how I go about measuring the voltage across the battery of the multimeter when the multimeter I'd use to measure the battery is the one suffering from an absence of battery power...

I could, of course, just charge it...

I have read a fair bit on this adapter plug that connects to the 24v outlet behind the passenger seat (haven't seen this yet), but what kind of connection do you plug into it?? I cannot figure it out....is it a cigarette style accessory plug?

I use mine to power a hand held 24V spot light. Just carry it in a bag behind the seat when I camp.
Great for searching out the elusive picnic table or fire pit.
I would imagine one could power just about any 24V appliance with it.

But how do you connect accessories to it??

What you show is what most of us have...Just un screw it and you will see two # pins for 8 gauge wire. Tin the pins with some solder, the slip the part you unscrewed and the rubber piece inside over the two wires, then strip the two wires and insert them into the pin cups you tinned. Now just solder them in... unless this is what your truck was converted to.

It is a 2 pin amphenol connector.

What Stekay links to is the accessory socket that is under the dash and on the tunnel ( for the blackout light).

I also use one of those to hook in my MRE heater.
