Starter motor drive worn - opinion/advice?

Hi All, I have starter engagement probs, the engine catches about one in ten tries. I took the starter off and although the ring gear does have some wear, the drive looks worse. Can you please have a look at the photo and give me your comments, advice etc?
Also, can the solenoid throw be adjusted? It appears there is very little that actually engages on the ring gear.
How does the bearing come off the end of the starter? Is it pressed on?
Cheers, Dave

Although my starter only seems to not fully engage when it is really cold, perhaps every 25th start...I have ordered a new one from EI.
This is a 40 year old vehicle and I expect to have to buy something new every once in a while.

In short, put a deep 5/8" socket over the shaft and give it a tap with a small hammer, as soon as the bushing slides back, remove the circlip with snap ring pliers, now the bushing and bendix can be removed. Always replace the bushing in the steel support. I use boot clamp pliers to re seat the bushing onto the circlip.
