Working out the precise date of manufacture

In the UK the government has recently changed the date at which a vehicle becomes exempt from road tax (7th January 1974). My 710K has body identification plates inside the driver's door and by the drivers seat which suggest it's a 1973 vehicle. The registration form provided by the tax authority suggests it is from January 1974 but doesn't state a day of the month.

Do the records exist anywhere that would allow me to confirm whether or not it is a 1973 vehicle? Has anyone tried speaking to the factory about such things?

I thought I remembered a post related to this but I searched and couldn't find it.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Tony

I am not 100% sure but the data plate is the date of manufacture from the factory and the paper work would be when it was registered.
From what I understand a vehicle could be made in year XXXX but sit around at factory or sales lot etc until registered in year XXXX+1
Even today they make a vehicle in Dec 2012 but by the time it ships, lands, prep, sold etc it is 2013.
Not sure if any of that makes senes but that is the way I understand it

The factory is more than willing to provide a date of manufacture on any of the Pinzgauers. I believe they charge a small fee, but it's pretty straight forward. Contact one of the dealers or the factory reps direct.

Cheers,
Scott
