electronic ignition
is there a definitive best source for the petronix (presuming the petronix is the best seup for a pinz)? seems there are some mods to this setup out there. i'd like to buy the full kit from one source and i'd like to do it right the 1st time. any advice?
I got mine for Scott at EI and save for the coil going out once have had no problems with it. I have the complete civilian conversion. This makes it nice when time to change the dist cap and rotor but I do have a water infiltration problem in deeper water crossings or when going fast through lots of water. The pertronix system cleared up a miss that I had in the ignition system and is on the short list of what I would consider good mods for the pinz.

Yes I got the complete set up. The only difference I can see between the two are the plugs and wires. I am not even going to compare these as that would be like comparing ford and chevy. Too many sides not enough answers. I got mine from Scott as he had one in stock at the time I needed it. The directions for conversion are clear and simple to follow. I would encourage you to pick up an extra cap and rotor at the same time for your field parts kit, regardless of where you decide to get your kit.

I have a ton of stuff from CWR and am very happy with all of it. The directions for install and the quality have been very good. I just could not tell you if Patrick was offering an electronic kit at the time or not. Scott at EI has been very helpfull when I needed to get parts from him.
I guess the real decission is in your choice in wire/plug combination and whether or not you consider it enough of a difference to offset the cost. Having dealt with both of them I am sure that each feels theirs is the best for the buck.

Is the Petronix kit water tight
Ok guys here goes some questions for all of you that have had the petronix kit installed.
How much water (in inches approxamately) did you forded with the old Mil Spec version of your pinz.
Did you have any problems with the water proof Mil Spec version and what was/were the problem(s).
Did you have any problems with water after the Petronix kit was installed and what was/were the problem(s) with it.
The reason that I am asking this question is that I have already replaced one 4.0L Jeep Wrangler motor due to Hydrolock. I do not want to replace an engine in a new Pinz (sort of new that is) as well.
My wife and I just put down a depost with Scott at EI for a 710M Pinz and I would like to have the Ignition Conversion questions answered before I make the change.

"Hydrolock" hydraulicked is really caused by ingestion of water into the cylinder and as water is not compressible it is the soft old metal which does the bending like con rods which then some times smash there way through the crank case. Dont ask me how I know
! What ignition that is installed would not have any bearing on it unless it was to stall the engine before ingestion takes place by shorting out the high tension.
