What is the base style called for the original Pinz headlight bulb? H3?

Hey Miles
I picked up a couple spares at The Lighthouse here in town. Hella Number 78161 (24v).

I do not like this word "bomb." It is not a bomb. It is a device that is exploding. Jacques le Blanc

Thanks Sean, Mike....I'm looking for something brighter than the stock, and that won't burnout really fast. I've though of making an adaptor so I can mount some HID units, since they are coming down in price. Super bright at 35w of draw. Plus they last a lot longer than standard halogens. I guess it would be cheaper to just upgrade to newer lenses though.

I opted to fit Hella Quartz Halogen Headlamp inserts with 100/55 globe inserts (12 volts in my case, but I see they are available in 24 volt 75/70 and 100/90) to replace the standard Pinny units.
I can give you the Hella Aussie Part No: but it probably won't help, but as the lights are made in Germany I'm sure they are available world-wide.
They have the parking light aperature fitted in the side, so slight modification of the original Pinzgauer / Bosch mount is need to clear the protruding parking light base, but it is minor.
I've broken a few of the lens/glasses over the years, but apart from that no problems and they provide more than enough light (especially when I switch on the HID equipped 4000's as well  )

I originally fitted 130/90 inserts (non Hella) to the Headlamp inserts and while the extra light was great, the heat generated was even greater! .... the result was that when driving at night through deep water / mud the sudden submersion of the headlights cracked the lens.
This is not a problem since I went to the 100/55 inserts.
