front seat replacement

Post by jchobby »

I want to install recaro type seats. Anyone know of a mounting system that allows guick removal like stock. Also like drivers side to be adjustable.

Try Patrick at Cold War Remarketing. You can find the seats on his website, I think in the Pinz Parts section. I got the less expensive ones and they are okay. I've never sat on the stock seats, but the aftermarket ones make me feel like I'm just a little too high up and it sometimes makes vision out the side windows tough. Not for traffic, but when I'm looking for deer. BTW, I'm only 5'11.

Sometimes I think the Swiss must average about 5'5". The stock seats have me looking right at the top of the windshield frame. I have to stoop down a bit to look straight out, or up, from the side windows. I'm only 5' 10".

I found some Honda CRX seats from a junkyard. They work well because the seat itself is very slim. Then I used some scrap steel straps and basically made a flat frame up which has 2 clips at the front and a slotted pad at the rear which all can clip right into the truck like the stock arrangement. I'm 6'0" tall, and I can still look right out the windshield. Though, barely. The seats can even recline partially.
This works pretty well, and keeps the original seats intact. However, the side bolsters on the seats seem to wear pretty badly from crawling in/out of the truck. Also, during some spirited off-road driving, I pushed into the seat hard enough to make contact with the seat's tube frame. Ouch.

front seat replacement

Hey guys,

I have had Recaros from CWRI, (Patrick) since late July and love them, I am 5'11" and have little trouble seeing out the windsheild or side windows, my head is not up in the top so I am looking at the top of the windsheild, I do however have to stoop or duck at intersections depending on the placement of the traffic lights, my one minor complaint is that the bottoms of my feet barely touch the floor board, have thought about adding a small "filler" floor so my calves and thighs arent so tired after a 100 to 200 mile day of driving, Jim Mettler has a real comphy pair of toyota celica seats I belive in his wifes 710, the sat down low and fit well, so that might be an option for you as well.

I am 6'3" and had to duck just to see traffic lights. I purchased 2 racaro type seats from eBay for $300 and only used 1 slider for each seat. I bolted the slider directly to the floor.

The engine cover made it impossible to use the 2nd seat slider unless I wanted to lose 3" of clearance (engine cover + slider) which I did not. I don't need to adjust the seat and I can recline it prety good. I now have about 1" of clearance above my head and the visibility is okay, the seat feels awesome and looks great.

I am using 2 45mm bicycle adjustable seat post bolts for each seat (they look like the picture below) plus some washers and the seat doesn't move at all. It's still a hastle to remove the seats but I don't need any tools.

Off Road Suspension Seat?

Post by Bruce Berger »

Has anyone tried an off road suspension seat such as a Mastercraft, Beard, or RaceCraft in their Pinzgauer? Both Beard and RaceCraft have narrow seats which should fit if the seat is not too high and the fixed recline is OK.

off road seats

Post by krick3tt »

I saw the McMaster seats in an off road magazine and thought they would work in a pinz, but they are a bit wide,21''. Since their shop is in El Cajon, close to me I went there to check them out.
I asked the man at the shop if they would install them but he said they do no fabrication and the ones in the article were just for that application. They will make custom seats for you though, but I did not get a price.
I looked at the ones from CWR but they were just a bit pricy right now. CRX seats will work I am told, but the 'new' ones from Honda are $3000. Not even in the ball park!!! Check the salvage yards.
Just have to shop around a bit more.

Cheers,

Some of the older PORSCHE seats will fit in a Pinzgauer.

What you find is that the choice of seat is like what cologne is the
BEST??? It is very personal. I am running the CRX seats. I mounted on the stock seat mounting brackets. The driver side is ok at best. I am comfortable with overly reclined back, Linda hates it and must insert a pillow at the top.

I have seen Best Top seats in a Pinz, a Merz benz van set that sat nicely, some racing that were the BIGGEST pain to set in, a set of Camaro seats that were miserable to reinstall (the owner thought they were the greatest), Red Bull #2 has maonaco on a custom aluminum plate that takes 15 munutes a side to set and bolt down, I have even seen a couch set in the back and not tied down (the comment was gravity sucks and will keep it there) His kids seems OK with that.

So, sit in all the seats you can find then find the one that fits like a glove and then find someone competant to mount it. PAY the PRICE. I have seen some welded seats and mounts that looked like bubble gum was used to mount them. Think of what happens in a crash and do you want to be launched. I saw a set that a CERTIFIED welder did for a cutomer of Dennis's and the customer complained about the price. I would not worry about a crash in the set the certified welder did (1/4 inch thick gussets in all corners). They would stay in place and let the seat belt do it's job of stopping forward movement not also have to keep you and the seat in the vehicle. Old motorcycle addage. If ya got a $10.00 head get a $10.00 helmet, if your head is worth more, get a better helmet. If you care about your spouse or passangers pay the money and get the welding DONE RIGHT!!!!!!

My 2 cents worth

I saw some great looking seats in a Lotus Exige S.

Perhaps we could get a new one and cut it up for the seats?
