im willing to pay........
I'd have to agree with the rest of the crowd. Take a few days and drive it back. You won't need lodging (you can sleep quite comfortably in the back) and the trip itself will be fun from all the people that will be staring and waving as they pass you.

Bring oil, earplugs, water, a sleeping bag and a stereo of some sort. Keep in mind that you're not in a hurry and it will make the trip much nicer. 55-60 MPH should get you back to the Garden State in 3 days easy.

I'd make sure to do it within the next month, it's going to get awful warm in some parts of the trip in late May / early June

I have a customer who is probably fiftyish who regularly goes east or west from Denver on his HD Sportster (missus on the back) and they stay off the Interstates going 50 miles E or W
then 50 miles north/south state roads (permitting to their destination.)
They seem to have lots of adventures on the way ---perhaps you might like to consider that!

Just charge up her Ipod (or get her one) and she will be less likely to complain

I hope you share your trip with the rest of us on these forums.

If your wife appreciates some creature comforts, here are some suggestions (from my wife):

1. I put a 40MM ammo box on it's side on the passenger's floorboard. It fits perfectly with little rubber adhesive feet (stuck to it's side) to prevent vibration/sliding. At 5'5" her feet don't sit flat on the floor so the box is a nice foot rest, and storage to boot.

2. If she's prone to cold feet, a car blanket to cover her legs/feet keeps complaints to a minimum- it can get cold down in the foot well if it's cool outside.

3. Most of all, get a used portable aviation intercom (e-bay- Flightcom or other) and two head sets. With them, quiet conversation is easy and she won't get tired of the road/machine/wind noise. No ringing in the ears after a long ride. Incidence of headaches is waaay down.
We use them on any 712 highway trip. Ipod/MP3/radios and even cell phones (on some headsets) will plug right in- truely hands free. Best of all, either of you can turn up the squelch to shut the other-one out!

My road trips in the Pinz have become a close and wonderful time with my passengers since I did the intercom. I'ts fun to comment to each other on the looks and waves we get. Only change I would make would be an active noise reduction headset ($).

drive it

Post by krick3tt »

I have driven from San Diego to Seattle three times...Seattle to Denver four times and am just in process of Denver to San Diego and back. Went to the Treffen in Parker, AZ.
Just do it. Drive it.
When I bought it from Scott I drove it from Frisco to San Diego with 30 min of training in my first pinz.

It is an adventure not to miss, great trucks, get in and go.

Brian, I follow your line of thinking..to fly down to AZ to drive back a unknown pinz to NJ could turn out real bad and worse if a female is involved. I always like to be prepared for worse case scenarios and with a 35+ yo ex-military vehicle in unknown condition this could be a disaster financially. Imagine the cost if a part failure occurs on the trip back in the middle of nowhere a tow then becomes necessary to the nearest repair shop, whos owner will either see dollars flying out of your butt or scratch his head saying we dont fix them things here. Then what? rent a truck and trailer to bring it back? wait for a couple of days to get a part shipped(if available?) hire a transporter and fly back home with a woman that is now pissed and will remind you every five seconds what a dope you are..and how could you throw away money on some OLD truck when you could have taken me on a cruise with that money..blah..blah.blah..you get the picture. As for ME...I would totally do it..BUT not with the wife..and I would make sure I have two weeks to burn, money in my pocket, and internet access just in case I need parts and a reasonable tool set to install said part..and of course a charged digital camera to upload pics of my adventure to you guys :D :D :D
life is like a box of chocolates...you never know which one you might get

alright im sure i SHOULD have someone look at it and im SURE that is the smart thing to do......that being said i already gave the guy a deposit....haha

this is what we decided: fly to Arizona.
pick up truck and drive to GRAND CANYON
sight see for a day
drive to sante fe new mexico and drop truck off at transport facility. have it shipped from sante fe new mexico and fly home.......take like a 3 day weekend...... this of course is assuming the truck is in good condition......it looks very clean and nice from the pictures i have looked at and i have had several conversations with the man on the phone so my fingers are crossed!

i will post pics!

Sounds like you have arrived at a very good solution. Will save days and days of life in the slow lane wondering if the wife will ever let you forget about the "splendid" adventure you took her on. Post what your schedule will be you may be able to get a couple of the southwest crowd to join your Grand Canyon excursion.

Is that a hummer? Seriously, it looks like every other stock 710 out there. Hard to see anything other than tires that have been done, so it doesn't (at least in the pics) look like it's been badly molested or anything. :)
