Any progress on whether the 14b-t gives better economy than the Volvo motor?

As an example my old 22R engine (2400cc Petrol) in my landcruiser getting 5k a liter on a good day was replaced with the 13B-T and I get a minimum of 8.5k a Liter around town and 9.8-11k a liter on the highway.
I expect the 14B-T to return 8-9k a liter.
14B-T not started yet just sitting in the truck. at least a month away from starting.

Re: Intro from Malaysia - WR7002 - C304
not much to report as we are waiting for the new pipe bender to turn up. There is 4 vehicles waiting for work and they all need the pipe bender.
The handbrake location modified as the 13B-T turbo clipped it.

The old roof of the rear cabin was in bad condition especially since it was only 6 years old.

The positioning of the military boxes for the new lifted platform we can see its going to work. 3 boxes long each side.

The rear rack over the rear wheelsm is to hang the two 18,000 and 12,000 winches underneath.

I will draw up a rough plan so people can see what I have in mind.

How close is it? You had hopes for field testing this weekend in preparation for next weeks outing?

No progress to report im afraid.mad_as_hec wrote:How close is it? You had hopes for field testing this weekend in preparation for next weeks outing?
The workshop still busy pushing out TRAILER orders not one thing has been done since November

and I have been very SICK

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leptospirosis
It nearly killed me and I am very lucky to be alive after 10 days in hospital and 3 in ICU and then 2.5 weeks off work and now 1-2 months complete rest (trust me im totally exhausted at 3pm each day) before I can start exercising.
This disease is killing quite a few people here and in my case I had RENAL failure and severe HEART issues. THe only reason im still here is the CARDIO told me you have a very very strong heart.
I am visting the truck in 2 weekends time as by then they are starting the rollcage.
WE are changing the colour scheme due to the issues in southern THAILAND so im going from military colours so something rather loud so if I ever drive through (and it highly likely) then no mistakes.
Updates soon as progress is made.
New date is to be ready for 15 Sepetember event.

Looking forward to seeing what modifications are required to fit the 14bt. Priority number 1 though, RETURN TO HEALTH!! Otherwise it will be someone else enjoying your project.

Sorry to hear about your health problems--those tropical diseases can be quite nasty. I hope you get better soon so you can look forward to enjoying life and your truck. I enjoy your comments and pictures very much and look forward to seeing how your truck turns out.
Cheers,
Greg

Re: Intro from Malaysia - WR7002 - C304
At present im preparing the inside of the cabin I have bought 6mm MARINE ply and 3mm sponge sheets and GREEN canvas.
I am still deciding whether to take the canvas to take to a upholsterer and get a set of stitching made up on it.
The rear panel im investigating whether to make it one piece or have to split it for when the seats are in. The cabin will be painted then sound proofed then covered with the above and fixed by stainless cupped screws unless someone can give me a better or nicer idea. The other solution was to use 2mm alloy with sponge glued to the inside and and it to make it dull(by sanding it in swirl patterns) it looks really good I have done this to 3 of my landcruisers already and fitting also with stainless PKK roundhead screws.

When you see the truck this weekend (if?), can you take some snapshots of the Ford Tractor power steering solution? Also wondering what clearance issues there are with the 14bt? What sort of clearance issues would there be if (for instance) the motor was about 8" further forward?
Only trouble yourself if your health is up to it.

My health up to it I just get tired. Missed this posting but does not matter he did not have the hydraulic kit out.
I have seen another one very dodgy - dodgy brother mechanicl workshop Ltd.
1. They used Hilux Steering column
2. They mated ISUZU cabover power steering to bottom of it.
3. They welded a new bracket to right side of the chassis to hold the bracket - damn must go take pics of it.
and it may actually work
As for the motor further forward would cause you issues with WEIGHT distribution and handling. the 14B-T is a BIG LUMP (from memory about 380kg) (same as 13B-T).
You pushing forward to put the H55F gearbox in?
Put the RADIATOR between the cabin and the rear then and electric fan it and the intercooler.
MIne is in same spot with 14B-T in it since we still using the Z151 gearbox.

Options I was looking at:geckoadventure wrote:As for the motor further forward would cause you issues with WEIGHT distribution and handling. the 14B-T is a BIG LUMP (from memory about 380kg) (same as 13B-T).mad_as_hec wrote:Also wondering what clearance issues there are with the 14bt? 1. 14b-t + ranger overdrive (7.5" + adaptor plates) + Volvo gbox/tcase (0.78:1 overdrive)
2. 14b-t + H50S + adaptor to Landcruiser or Volvo tcase (0.63:1 overdrive)
3. 14b-t +H55F + Landcruiser tcase (0.85:1 overdrive)
4. 14b-t + A440F + Landcruiser tcase (0.71:1 overdrive)
5. 12ht + A440F + Landcruiser tcase
I think the merits of each speak for themselves. None are really "simple" solutions to the gearing issues. Options 1 and 3 are probably the most workable, and anything with the Landcruiser tcase has a handbrake challenge as well.

3 has been done here before and you just need to sort the linkage out and the handbrake as the factory one is the best thing to come out of LANDROVER ever.mad_as_hec wrote:Options I was looking at:geckoadventure wrote:As for the motor further forward would cause you issues with WEIGHT distribution and handling. the 14B-T is a BIG LUMP (from memory about 380kg) (same as 13B-T).mad_as_hec wrote:Also wondering what clearance issues there are with the 14bt? Option 3. Ranger overdrive,
http://www.high-impact.net/transmission ... rdrive.htm
Designed to go between bell housing and transmission, not sure how difficult it would be to adapt to the Volvo gearbox. Only thinking on that option, which adds 7.5" to the drivetrain length because the 14bt is 5" shorter.
