Is that meant to show that 19D20 IS 'optimader'?

If he is, he's no credit to this forum.

Honestly guys, I'm not sure how to take or understand all of the criticism.

Here on the forum, I described a problem I was having, folks weighed in, I got some excellent advice from Andre Swanson who described an interim fix (AKA using heavier weight gear oil) and that addressed the problem until a permanent fix could be implemented which called for tools I didn't have and was not comfortable using (spring compressor).

Since then, i was approached about selling the 712, listed it on eBay to guage market interest and value and and just for grins (and $250) I thought about adding in bringatrailer.com for added exposure. Well you guys saw the response to the ebay listing and there were a vast amount of inquiries. It appears to be sold at this point and I can assure everyone here (and a goofball from bat.com who who started in on me fairly mercilessly) that I tried to describe everything as accurately as possible. I suggested that he was likely one of those guys who here in Texas we refer to as "all hat, no cattle" and they he was chiming in with opinions on subjects where he had little or no first hand experience. That's apparently when the BAT.com villagers lit up their torches and began looking for me for the witch hunt / burning at the stake part of this exercise.

I adhere to the approach in all things to some advice that a very successful guy shared with me one day, "if you don't lie, you don't have to remember what you told anyone." and that seemed then and now like great advice.

If anyone thinks i was out of line or did something unsavory, or misrepresented the 712 or whatever, I'm certainly sorry about that but I can't for the life of me figure out what that would be at this stage.

In fact I was simply critical of Optimader. I didn't like his approach at all.

Your 712 was clearly a good one, and for it to be slammed by whoever Optimader was showed an unrealism on his/her part. I can understand why you're left feeling bemused by the whole episode. I've found the world of Pinz/Haf/C303/whatever to be populated by decent and interesting folk. The vindictive side from the likes of Optimader is an unwelcome but mercifully rare intrusion.

For those who didn't catch this little drama, there was this guy "optimator" who went ape with his comment when I mentioned the crack in one of the front boots and a very modest leak from the differential. He went off on me in a way that made me look like a complete know nothing amateur.

I probably didn't help to difuse matters much when i suggested he was one of those guys who still lives at home with his mom at age 45 and who gets to drive her 15 year old clapped out Chevy station wagon...when she allows it!

In any event, i do enjoy the daily emails from bat.com but I think I will be reluctant to use it to sell a vehicle in the future. Too many folks just waiting for an opportunity to pick apart any description or seller's comment to which they take issue.

Thanks for the pep talk Bonefish!

was chatting with one of the fellow pinz owners here just this morning about this whole drama thing. I told him that since I had met you in the past and realize your perspective on the trucks that the other guy simply did not know you. What you would call a modest leak most would not refer to it at all (some folks are that way) Description seemed more than fair and I am sure that if asked you would have provided any pics of any part of your fine truck. Sadly these people exist to just torment people who have things they only wish they could afford. With your particular 712 selling at that price the buyer should be MORE than happy.

Awaiting to see what you are replacing it with though

Thanks for the encouragement and the reminder of my philosophy and approach towards things Mike. As I shared with the fellow who has purchased it, i described it in a way that I would have wanted to see had I been the buyer. To your point, if anyone had asked for photos of any specific areas or problems, i would have done so promptly and shared them with anyone else who asked for them.

The fellow who is buying it is located in San Diego and I've already provided him with Jim Lagardia's contact details so that he can any and every little thing that needs to be address handled by a knowledgeable local (relatively) resource.

As far as what comes next, I had a line on a right hand drive Defender 90 from a distressed (financially) seller. That might still come together. Ther's also a local Haflinger that i keep bugging the owner about but this is the guy who owns one of the local Mercedes Benz stores so he's not going to be selling it anytime soon because he needs the dough.

I could end up with a 710K...who knows.

I will not be withdrawing from membership in our little real4x4.com club in any event!

If I had to change Pinzgauers it would be for a 712K. Just something about them I like. I always thought I would end up with a 710K but the more I am around them the less appealing they are. There is just not enough space inside for me.

Good luck on the Defender, a buddy of mine does a lot of work with the rovers when he is in country. the last time I was in Texas was to go pick up a couple in Houston that he imported. He does some diesel conversions that are pretty popular in the rover crowd. I think they are going to have a couple at the Offroad Expo in flagstaff this year.

Just to clarify , I have made several runs with David and have found him to be honest and what I would describe as more than a little picky about his Pinz.

Absolutely.

I know David was fastidious about his pinz, and wouldn't misrepresent the condition of his truck.
I met him(in passing) at the shop where he gets his bicycles worked on.
