Air ducts
Re: Air ducts
There are many, under or in the vehicle? Are you unable to measure them for some reason?
If you get them from SAV the will be the correct size.

Re: Air ducts
The Parts Manual gives the dimensions of each piece of ductwork in millimeters. IIRC, there are 3 different inside diameters. Parts Group 30-05 shows them all.

Re: Air ducts
I ordered ducting from Spruce in 50mm (2 inch) and 70 mm (2 3/4 inch). It has to be ordered by the length in feet and diameter in inches.
SAV will send you the exact length of ducting you require for each location and strangely it will be less cost than Spruce as some are odd lengths and you will have to order to the nearest foot from Spruce (longer is better). I know it sounds counter intuitive but that is how I see it.
There are some that prefer the quality of Spruce, ignoring the cost factor, but the ducting on my pinz has been there for 40+ years before crapping out and depending on how long one expects to keep the vehicle the choice is a personal decision.

Re: Air ducts
Thank you, everyone. I got varying measurements on some of the fittings and connections. That's why the question. I've got it now.

Re: Air ducts
Aircraft spruce sceet flexhoses for heater seem to be great, just installed it on my 710. One tip, if the exact size is not available, go slightly bigger rather than smaller, the wire cable compresses easily with a hose clamp to fit if slightly large but doesn't expand easily to fit if slightly small (I thought it would, but it doesn't).
You mainly need 40mm, 50mm, 70mm ducting. This is what I recently ordered:
05-30606 HARTZELL SCEET-6 DUCTING 1 1/2" **(Note: 40mm = 1.575". --> The 1.5" ducting IS A BIT TOO TIGHT for the 1.575" receptacles, YOU should consider next size up for ducting).
05-30608 HARTZELL SCEET-8 DUCTING 2" (50mm=1.968" Hence 2" is slightly bigger, and works well where 70mm needed).
05-30611 HARTZELL SCEET-11 DUCTING 2 3/4" (70mm = 2.756". Hence 2 3/4" is a bit small but seems to fit ok regardless)
05-30612 HARTZELL SCEET-12 DUCTING 3" (75mm = 2.953". This 3" is slightly bigger than 75mm and fits great)
05-30614 HARTZELL SCEET-14 DUCTING 3 1/2" (90MM=3.54").
I actually bought the SAV ducting, but I wanted to get some aircraft spruce ducting anyway for my 79 VW Van, and since I like it better I ended up getting it for the Pinz too. I have some SAV ducting I will sell if your or anyone wants it. Pics attached.

Interesting thing about any of this ducting, wether from SAV or Spruce is that it is not insulated. Wrapping the ducting from the heat exchanger to the valve and from the valve to where it goes through the engine area to the cab will improve your heat in the cab by at least 50%. Also has the ability to lessen the wear on the ducting. Just my thoughts on the subject and something that I did years ago when I could not get warm in the winter.

Re: Air ducts
I installed the aircraft spuce orange ducting because it's higher quality than factory. On the flip side, that shouldn't matter much since I need a heater about 3 times a year. The silver ducting looks too much like drier duct from Home Depot, IMO. Not a big deal unless a lot of people are spending time underneath your Pinzgauer.
Re: Air ducts
Paint it OD or flat black and it won't matter. Of course you can always get the orange stuff from Spruce, that really shows up well.

Re: Air ducts
It turns out I don't particularly care for the silver ducting because it will deform if pushed on, there is no inside wire to keep the circular profile (unlike the stock ducting). The black ducting is a bit better, but only due to the paper-like material rather than "tin foil" (still no inside circular wire frame). The aircraft spruce stuff has a fairly heavy gauge stainless wire wound the length to allow flex but maintain the shape, even around bends or under light loads. Of the different variations of this at aircraft spruce, I like the SCEET best because it is double-layer-thick (wire encapsulated between outer and inner layer). Hence inside is smooth. Downside is that it is kind of expensive for what we are doing here.
At the end of the day, not much sense in over thinking this, air just needs to get from A to B… but out of principle and habit I do things the best way that I think it can be done, hence the SCEET. Just can't help myself, even if it means buying stupid expensive ducting.
I do like that idea about insulating the hot air delivery ducting, November hunting season gets quite frosty…

Re: Air ducts
I ordered the black from Spruce, precisely because I want the wire inside to make it stiff and easy to install. I was given some of the orange by a friend and used it because it was given to me. The orange was a bit more expensive so I went with the black, after all it is under the pinz and I am the only one down there.

I had that exact same thought --- but I was so cold when I was installing it, I simply wanted to get the job done with. D'oh!

Good video below on the material differences between SCEET, CEET, SCAT and CAT ducting.

I need some of the 2 3/4", I'll be ordering SCEET from Aircraft Spruce.
