Parting out 1979 Pinzgauer 712M
Purchased a 1979 Austrian Pinzgauer 712M from Expedition Imports to build a full-time overland vehicle. Plans are to strip everything down to the drive-line, swap in a fuel efficient motor/transmission, and build a custom insulated body.
These are the parts available for pickup in Stockton, California 95210:
2 - Front seats are $150 each
2 - Rear seats are $300 each
Complete roll bar structural frame for Austrian 1979 Pinzgauer 712m $1250
Complete Austrian split windshield with wipers and working motor for 1979 Pinzgauer 712 $1000
Extended Range Gas/Petrol/Fuel tank $400
Complete wiring harness, brake master cylinder and other miscellaneous parts (Taking Offers)
I have additional photos but there is a file limit.

Re: Parting out 1979 Pinzgauer 712M
Good luck with the ad but did you know you picked possibly the worst platform to try to modify? It will also be mostly worthless when you are done. It's been tried countless times and has never worked. The driveline can't handle more power and there are cooling issues, on top of everything else.
If you are in Ca. you can't get it smogged, even if it were stock since it's a '79. Maybe you are an engineer with $30K+ to spend, or are going all electric but even then, it will be a nightmare and never stop having issues. I'd seriously think about a Sportsmobile or new Sprinter Revel before you blow $50K on what will be a $4k parts car soon.

Please excuse Vince’s seemingly uncompromising pessimism and lack of vision. I believe the more of these (well engineered) vehicles get modified beyond return, the more my near factory truck will be worth. I also think you’ll recover the cost of your original purchase with the sale of your spare parts. There are plenty of folks here looking to return their loved rigs back into their former glory and are in need of them. Please continue to submit updates to your build as I think many would be interested in tracking your build process, eventual finish product, and actual performance/ function gains.
Good luck and God speed.

Thanks Andre, it did hurt disassembling this beauty but it wouldn't fit my style of overlanding. Here's the current status with the mid-engine/tranny swap and brake rotors.

Looks like things are moving along. Will you need the higher shock towers with the lmited movement of the swing axle?

Re: Parting out 1979 Pinzgauer 712M
Hello! I’m slightly curious if the extended fuel tank from your 712 will bolt up to my 710. Never even thought about it actually, but I would like to have a larger tank regardless. Thoughts?

The second tank should bolt up to the mounting points where your existing gerry can holder is mounted.

That’s mildly exciting. Is your tank still lined with the “red death” coating?. Also, do you know how much shipping might be to Colorado? Probably not very cheap as I imagine they’d put it on a pallet.

Looks like this you should create a build thread.
and add your location to your profile. Inquiring minds want to know.

I’ve had a profile here with all my info for what seems like an eternity. However, it doesn’t always show my info properly and I also can’t post photos.
It’s been quite the frustration since I tried years ago. Anyway, my user name is Tyler, and I think I’m the only one. Cheers!
