Hard Top via Fat Fabrications just installed.

This required a fair amount of fiddling, but ended up pretty square.
Took the better part of the day and with help. Elephant ears go on
next but that's easy.

I will be mounting two 50W solar panels on the roof to keep the LiFePO4
battery topped off. Inside I will be insulating the roof and adding an
overhead console for radios and instruments -- that all comes later. I
have had enough mod's, time to hit the trails.

Loving following your build Ron, it’s looking great!
We have done many of the same mods I have just been slack on posting my progress.
I want to get a hard top on mine too, initially just the front but eventually the whole length. unfortunately I’m in Australia so will have to sort something out locally.

Fabricated a mounting bracket for a pair of 50W Solar panels.
There's a "bow" on the mount to conform with the bow in the
roof. A total of 100W is about the maximum you can get over
the roof of the cab but that's plenty to keep my LiFePO4 battery
topped off. I may run the power leads down the Antenna mount
later, for now they go in under the rear curtain.

A wee bit more progress; side panels and roll bar restored.
On a bit of a pause now as I need to get some things done
on the 710.

One thing I wanted to capture is my experience with SAV's
Swiss Green rattle cans. The paint is from Germany and is
RAL #6014. It's pretty good, a tad too glossy IMHO, and not
easy to work with.

My biggest complaint is the nozzle -- it is terrible, a narrow cone spray.
Not well suited for larger areas. I took that nozzle off and used spares
I had from Rapco paints -- nice fan spray. Application is tricky, the
window is pretty narrow between the perfect amount of paint, e.g.
just below running and just enough paint to not have a "sandy'" looking
sheen. If you have to go back to "touch up" an area you will be better off
doing a complete coat. Masking off smaller panels is the only way to get
a decent outcome.

New top from Pinzgauer-Tec. Pretty pleased. Just FYI, Pinz-Tec
is out of Austria and brand new material not NOS. Ivan is extremely
responsive. Shipping cost was ~$80 to Cali, not bad.

Needs some tweaking in the upper corners due to the K top on this
712MK conversion.

Took two to get this on. I can tell you it was a real struggle getting this
to fit. Was a cold day in the garage and just would not fit to the middle
support bar with footman hooks. Got the idea to put a forced air
5KW electric heater in the cargo area and let the top "soak" in heat for hour.
That did the trick. Still needs a wee bit more "stretch" from the midpoint
to the hard top for more overlap and smoother fit. I'll let the sun do that
this spring then tighten it up a tad.

That’s the only color option. I would have preferred
Tan or a shade closer to Swiss green than this. But
It’s a color I decided I can live with.

Ordinarily I'd show the before and after and no ugly intermediate steps.
But life is different and not all my resources are available.

I have pretty much finished the exterior gussy up and now moving on
to the cargo area. I am tossing all the seats with the exception of the
seat pair closest to the cabin. They all have a mousy reek and are in
pretty bad shape anyway.

The modifications will be simple, I want two storage areas under the
hinged frames with the Aluminum plate. The problem with the stock
configuration is that when the seats are turned down the space is
consumed by the seat back and cushions.

What I have come up with is a beam hung by brackets on each side.
A 1" x 1" 063 square tubing can carry a fair amount of load, along with
hanger brackets made from 16 GA steel.

Attached are the brackets, and beams and a big space for camping and
recovery gear. Later I will media blast the floor and tin knock the dents
out in the flooring. An ARB frig fits nice on the upper left side deck and
I open the floor plate with no interference.

Excuse the ugly tub I'm still trying to decide if I'll go Swiss green
or a liner. I did knock out a lot of dents though.

But the fit up is essentially done, fini, exatum eam.

I retained the front seat pair, they will need a major rebuild, mousy
moldy smell, torn and worn. In my prior posting I tossed the rearmost
seats and converted to storage bins. Half-height storage bins fit PERFECT.
One chuck full of recovery gear, the other camping etc. stuff.

PIX shows storage, ARB fridge, and spare Jerry can (or Water) mount. Simple

In the PIX is a DIY cam clamp to hold down the 4 panels so they don't rattle.

Now I'm hankering to give this rig a run on the trails. Deferring other
improvements for the Winter; overhead console, etc etc etc.

Drat, I do need to replace these old bias-ply tires, looking at 255/33" Toyo's,
ain't cheap but Toyo's are awesome tires IMHO.

Looks great Ron! I am looking forward to your posts on an overhead console. I have been contemplating one for a couple years and just can't decide on how I want it. Hit the trail!

What type of paint are you using?

I plan on painting as I go, so not sure if I should invest in a paint sprayer. For example, I plan on dropping the gas tank and while I have it out, I'll go ahead and paint it.

Currently looking at the standard green for the pinz with black accents. Also, when you paint are you sanding down to metal?

Willie is sourcing this product from German, I don't know if it's enamel or lacquer but I am assuming enamel.

It's not the easiest paint to work with. Very narrow application window "meaning the time you apply to it's setting up".
The nozzle is terrible, more of a spot application than a fan pattern. I replaced the nozzles with ones I had around that
spray vertical or horizontal -- much better application that way. You can use it with the nozzle it comes with but it's
just a bit more challenging.

I typically sand away the oxidized layer, clean with alcohol or other mild solvents. There were places where I had to feather
and go down to bare metal. I used Eastwood primers but good enamel based primers should do. The Pinz paint and primer is
pretty durable so I typically try to keep that intact.

Most of the Black I have is added jewelry, tank guards, winch bumper etc etc so I get that stuff powder coated Black/30% Gloss.
