My brake lights never came on unless I pushed the pedal hard enough to skid the tires. Recently, they come on anytime the main switch is on. Whether or not I am pushing the brake or not. So basically anytime I'm in the truck or forget to turn off the electrical key the lights are on. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Greg

The brake light switch is pressure activated by the brake master cylinder, you will find the switch if you reach your hand around to the front of the master cylinder. There is just enough room for the switch between the cylinder and the front sheet metal.
I've replaced them when they got old and took way too much pressure to trigger them; sounds like yours was that way and then died completely. Also check to see that the wires are still connected to it.

When I first got my truck the brake light switch would get stuck, always in the on position. Tapping it gently let it turn off. I decided to put in a mechanical SPST NO spring switch that was actuated by the peddle. Has worked great for over 5 years. I know I could get another switch but I've been lazy. I have a new master cylinder right now, haven't looked at it, might have a new switch which will get reconnected if I ever replace.
