Post by eaweidner »

Looking for fellow Pinz owners in Iowa, Illinois, Missouri. I live in SE Iowa and sure would like to get in touch with other Pinz owners that may be close by.

Hi Eric,

I know we're not in the states you listed, but Wisconsin is pretty close too. There's a small, but determined, coven of owners up here too.

There's some half-assed trails further north here and into da U.P., eh, of Michigan.

Just saying hello.

Hello to all who responded! I was hoping for some exchange of info...are any using their truck as a daily driver? If so, who is your insurance through? My insurance is of the specilaty car variety and has limitations on usage. Now that warmer weather is in sight I will be able to start on some much needed maintenance. I may need the help of the forum before it is all over! I live near Fairfield, IA...home of the Annual Power Wagon Rally hosted by Vintage Power Wagons. A lot of very nice trucks and one of the local farmers opens up some timber for trail rides. There is agroup up towards Knoxville called MIOBI (Make It Or Break It). They are an off road/rock crawling club that hosted a Toys For Tots trail ride that was fun.
How far si everybody from say, Des Moines?

Pinz

I am about two hours from Des Moines. I use my current Pinz regularly but I split my time between my M37, Unimog, and the pinz. So, I guess I drive it once or twice a week...Des Moines is about two hours from me. I have never been to the PW rally despite having a PW for years...

Hi Eric,
My 712 is not a daily driver (lately no driver at all...). Ha-Ha NOT!
I insure through Drive (progressive), but I only carry liability. I only found two co.s to offer me comp, and it was $1400/yr. and NO OFFROAD!!!! Yeah, right.
Once we get our licenses straightened out, the rally sounds like a nice destination sometime.
There are several of us up here just west of Mad City, so we're about 6 hrs. from DesMoines (guessing).

There are a few photos of my truck at the Yahoo Pinzgauer forum listed under 'Hellfish Pinz'. What kind of mods have you guys done? Any heater issues from you guys in WI?

I have State Farm insurance in WI and have not had any trouble insurance wise.

If you want to see some of my mods you can join the web site we have in WI. I have a few pictures in my blog.

Hi Eric,

I've got a eberspacher heater I got through CWR when I bought the truck. I've only rarely used it.

The biggest impediment to a Pinz in Wisconsin (besides the DMV) is the SALT they use on the roads in winter. It'll eat a car alive. Iron moths.

So my Pinz is usually parked from fall to spring, unless the weather's so bad that nothing else can get through.

The few times I have driven it in winter I just pretend I got drafted, so I have to be there, and dress like an eskimo.

But as far as heat, there just isn't enough.
