I've had no hassles here in SLC with the DMV; my 712 is registered as a truck. DMV just accepted the papers.
You will need a safety inspection and emissions. Most safety/emissions places don't know what to do with it as it is not in their data base.
I'm insured with Progressive, but have to do this by phone, not via internet (too old, not in their data base).

Mike would know that most about registering the Pinz in SLC County. About places to drive the Pinz...You have countless places less than an hour away from SLC and Moab is only 4 hours away too. Some good day trips are American Fork canyon, 5 Mile Pass, Skyline Drive from the Bountiful Side or Farmington Side and there are many places in the west desert that are fun to explore, old mining towns and stuff. The Pony Express Trail is pretty cool too.
Google any of those and I am sure you find all sort of info on them. You still can't make it to most of the peeks yet though...to much snow. We tried Ben Lomand Peek this weekend and Farmingtin Peek last weekend and failed both times because of the snow. It was a good time to get away from the 95+ heat though...
