Sorry, Erik, but until you offer me irrefutable and properly spelled proof, I will not believe that I have aged myself.EvanH wrote:[quote="Erik712mYou've just aged your self:))

Well I'm only two years older than the time frame you have been driving so I'd say you're pretty old:)
Just trying to lighten the mood a little.

Andy
Reminds me of the guy that posted his resume at the bottom of his posts, a few years back.
I thought for sure he had reinvented the wheel

Dokatd, I can tell you from experience(and years of driving Pinzgauers) that you have little wisdom...........just wiz.................
You must be blind, the top speed question was answered with facts for both 4x and 6x
There is a reason disk brakes were fitted to the later TD versions........Poor braking under speed and the fact that with offset axles and independant suspension the vehicle will veer to one side or dip in extreem braking.
As for wear, it is fact, not fiction that higher speeds accellerate wear.
I should know as I repair a fair amount of Pinzgauers and see this evidence first hand.
Would you like some worn out bearings or broken housings, burnt up transmissions?
One side note, your 34" tires are a poor choice. If they rub the body while articulating it tends to rip the portal axle from the axle tube$$$$$$$$ We see this a couple times a year, average reair cost around $2600
As far as top speed, go as fast as you want, just make sure to bring a change of shorts when you can't stop in time and possibly end up on your side
I drive in Pinz time (3x more space than normal between me and the car ahead )
As far as stability, just look at the warnings in the operators manual

Wow, when did this board turn into one of these stupid pissing contest boards that most other automotive boards have become?
Guys, this isn't the Civic board, or the WRX board. Can we put our measuring sticks back in our pants?
Facts:
1. Pinzgauers do not handle well at high speed, either in handling tight turns or in braking. They have a high center of gravity, drum brakes, skinny tires and accelerate like a ... Pinzgauer.
2. No matter what your transfer case is, what kind of tires you run, or how much you upgrade your brakes, a Pinzgauer is not a stable platform at high speed. It was never designed to cruise at 70-80MPH, and the risk you take traveling at that speed isn't just to yourself, it's to every minivan driving soccer mom, and every 16 year old newbie driver that makes stupid mistakes right in front of you.
3. Vehicle type doesn't matter. All things being equal, a vehicle traveling at a higher RPM / higher speed will wear out parts faster than the slower traveling vehicle. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out.
The real question here was the recommended safe speed for both the vehicle and the persons around the vehicle, not the potential top speed of a pinzgauer. In California, you cannot drive a 712 faster than 55 MPH due to it having 6 wheels (I was told this by a CHP officer, so take it for what it's worth) so the point is moot for a 712 out here.
I would cruise my 710 at up to 70MPH up until I almost killed myself slamming on the brakes to avoid a ladder that fell off a truck in front of me. Almost completing a 180 when traveling in a straight line has changed my ways.
Now, I don't drive any Pinz faster than 55. BTW, I have driven over 300 different vehicles in the past 2 years, and approximately 30 Pinzgauers over the past 5 years... Does my opinion count?
Just my $.02

We can have fun still Jim.
The problem with the question is, its a bit of an opinionated question. Some people might say that a pinz isent safe over 45MPH and some might argue its not safe to drive on road period (washington residents). I argue its safe up to and around 70MPH. I also argue that you guys are whipping your dicks out over 10-15MPH If I had come on and said yeah, drive 80+, you guys would have more amunition. As for wear, if you read my last posts in detail, you would see that I agree with wear issues, but not to the catastrophic degree you seem to think it is.
