I'm considering mounting a sliding drawer tool box. What tools would one take for an extended trip. 2,000 to 3,000 mile trip. Trying to figure out drawer sizes.
I've replaced quite a few seals so I figure I should carry a dozen of each.
Thanks Erik

Erik,
I just made the trip from Seattle to Denver pulling my M416 trailer and the only tool I needed was a gas credit card. If your vehicle is in good shape you should be fine. But I carry all the original tools and the things that I use for regular maintenance, but I was on paved roads the whole way, no off-roading involved.

Erik,
It may also be a good idea to find friendly members of the lists you are on who live along the path. I have helped a couple of people I would not otherwise have met, and they would have been stranded.
One guy on a British car list posted his itinerary and got quite a list of volunteers to cover sections of the route.

If you are trying to keep the tool kit to a minimum I would put these together into a tool roll.
1 - 2nd set of open end spanner wrenches 10-11, 12-13, 15-17 19-21 24-27
1 - multi tip screw driver
1 - 2nd pliers - box pivot with wire cutter
1 - channel locks - med or large
1 - small pry bar
2 - 10mm hex keys with a cheater bar
1 - locking pliers - med flat jaw
1 - cresent wrench - med
This assumes you have the tools that came with the pinz:
Spark plug tool
Lug wrench 19mm
Grease gun
Jack
Open ended spanner wrench set
Medium machinist hammer
Pliers
Optional extras:
Wire crimpers
Tire lever set
Tire patch and plug kit
Foot air pump
Metric socket set with 3/8 sliding bar handle and 6" extension (you could use a ratchet head but I like the simplicity or the sliding bar)
Swap out the second set of open end spanners with a metric combination wrench set.
Small magnetic parts pan.

Russ, it maybe closer to 500 if I get stuck in Atlanta in August.
Evan, when it got closer to the road trip I was planning on posting. Asking members who would like to meet and posible do a day of site seeing.
Miles, most of those tools I carry in my side tool box now. I was thing about pullers , volt meters, spare parts, ect.
