WELCOME HOME

Post by Jorgo »

Thank you for making the sacrifice so I can sleep peacefully knowing my wife, two small sons and I am safe (for now). Most people wouldn't complain so much about their petty problems if they were to do one week in any foreign service (other than club med). I will parrot some advice I read on the forum when I was looking to "buy into the club" and has turned out to be absolutely true. to paraphrase.. "If you're in a hurry, don't take the Pinz. Not because she's slow, but because every where you go you'll get stopped". yes stopped.. and peppered with questions and people wanting to take pictures of it and or with it. I had 5 stops around town today in San Diego in my 712 and every one took me 5 minutes or so just to get out of, or into the truck with people taking pictures, asking the usual "what is that?, Where'd you get it? (EBAY?-c,mon! you're kidding) how many miles to the gallon? (12, which with 14 people on board, is 3-4 times better than a prius after making 4 trips) is that thing on top for guns? (antenna mount), my husband would kill for one (lady taking pictures while I was gassing up today) and it goes on and on and on. I live and work in La Jolla and park it on the street everyday and every day there's someone standing next to it looking in when i go to leave. nothing like a guy in a new lamborghini with his kid hanging out the window pointing to my pinz and saying "coooool".. Welcome home. If you're ever in San Diego and want to grab a beer. they're on me. PM me any time. got a couple wounded warriors that would like to join us.

It is really true! I have some really nice toys but I like putting around in my 1953 willys 4x4 PU. I always get ( I learned how to drive one of those) or that thing is unstoppable. I just smile and think of all the cool things and places they were able to drive back then. They might have a $250k 2 seat sports car to get to the party but we can take the whole party to the top of the mountain....you can't buy that:^)

The only downside to driving the pinz I've found personally, is that i rarely take out my first love any more. 2004 G500 w/ a chip, stainless steel headers, dual side exhaust carbon fiber air box, 450bhp just tuned to where i wanted it when i saw my first pinzgauer, now the G sits in the garage and only comes out on cold nights. If the pinz fit in the garage (just inches too tall) Id seriously consider putting her inside. But that would make a few of my uptight and snooty neighbors happy and for now i enjoy watching them seethe at the sight my "F.U.V."

In "green" Seattle (bordering on the red) a very unhappy eco-hiker with a sneer lowered her nose as she got out of her Subaru Forester at a trail head and asked me what I thought "that thing" (712) is.

I told her it was the latest protoype Subaru.... the Subaru De-Forester!

Ed,

Don't rattle the greenies, we get enough pad press...undeserved, but some people feel if you haven't spent $50K for some sun powered GM (Japanese) pedal powered product you are killing the planet.

Wait till you are pulling them out of a 2 inch snowdrift...then just smile and feel your Karma grow.

I had a discussion about how much energy it took to make my vehicle....but that was 38 years ago when energy was cheap. I paid my carbon footprint back years ago. I used to eat tofu.

Really wish I was back up there sometimes to go out wheeling with you guys.

Was going to put a sticker on the 712 "My other car is a Prius". I drove one till 4 months ago. Wife voted that one down.
By the way, if you reallly want to get them going, park on their right side about 5 feet from their car. When you start the Pinz, the first little spray of oil coats their passenger windows. Discovered that one totally by accident. Honest.

While I don't try to antagonize anyone, my mere presence drives some to extremes.

You don't see my videos on You Tube any more. I was probably the mildest of the Pinz videos there.. showed my son driving on a road and me turning around on a dirt trial head parking lot. No speed, no spins, no flying debis... Mine's more of a show truck anyway, and I hate to get it dirty, and certainly not wet/muddy.

I litterally got an internet threat when I had one video posted showing my son driving 6 feet off the road onto a flat dirt turn around spot. No ground was even broken. The author of the note stated I was to blame for destroying the pristine Cascade wilderness, and told I would pay for my transgressions. You guys in the Southwest don't know how lucky you are, to be able to go off road without public distain. Did you know we have a law here that prohibits transporting dead game (dear, elk) on state roads if not covered from sight? A game warden patient of mine told me they fear the public putting a halt to hunting some day.

We all love the outdoors, and I believe most of us treat our wilderness with respect. I practice "Tread Lightly" too, don't cut locks off of gates or drive around them. The State of Washington just cut Reiter valley off road trails (one of only two ORV parks in the north puget sound area) by 3/4 this year in the interests of "wilderness preservation". A proposed gun range in that same area is being contested by the nearest neighbor- by a nudist club over a mile away.

I've found that just being alive is enough to antagonize these people. Might as well have some fun with it.

Sorry for the rant, and I wish you could go out with us too!!

I am a newbee to the Pinz word as well. I am just south of you two. When you get home I would love to hook up with the few brothern of the Pinz world. Mine is a 710K and will be delivered to my door step on Tuesday.
I have been in the air cooled word for over 20 years just 2wd pre 67 VW buses, not off roaders. I am heading to Whiskey Creek next weekend in Port Angles for its maiden voyage

I had to go the other direction:

Hands down the coolest sticker I've seen on a pinz is Tony (the pinz dr.'s) " Infidel" in english and arabic on the front windshield. [/i]

I live ther and can atest to some of the people up there. I get $hit from people up there all of time about the carbon foot print of my 11,000 lb Sportsmobile. I am like WTF, is your problem! Where do you think all those batterys in your (ECO Friendly) car go when they die???? To a land fill, and they can deposit there fare share of Mercury back in to the planet...Way worse than my footprint.
I told one guy that I just got back from the war and put about 10 of my friends in the ground, so he can sit here and run his mouth. I said it to the guy, itwould best if you removed yourself from this situation, before things go south for you. You want to put a dent in the problem...get you and a few of your dope smoking buddies and head over to China and India for a rally. When you sort that one out , come on back and let me know how that goes for you. Man I am so tired of people b*tching about bad we have or how bad we are in the US. Rally up all of the people and send them to Somolia, A-Stan,Niger, El salvador, Uzbec,....few others I have been too as well.....there is plenty of space, we can sprinkle them about and they can spread the carbon foot print message to the Taliban, they should be receptive! Good lord I am on a Rant!

We all pay taxes, and are US Citizens. Respect yourself, and others. We have is so good, why do we make things so dam hard!

My 2 cents
Hell, lets just wing it and see were we end up!
