So silly. I removed the door tops while cleaning up my green 712 yesterday and set them on the edge of my driveway. We did a little parading around town and I come back to find door tops have vanished. Its a magic trick!!
I have no idea what would lead someone to think they have any value, especially when im the only Pinz owner in the area. My only guess is scrappers since yesterday was garbage day. Anyways, please let me know if you see them for sale on the web
Yea, up in Crystal beach we pile all of our cans at the road on garbage day. Some sketchy folks drive up and down snagging them. I swear they have to spend more in gas than they receive in coin.
It's actually unbelievable....they must be waiting around every corner. I'll put metal out at the road, walk to the back yard to get more, come back and it's either gone or getting loaded....
I'd hate to think some A-hole is gonna recycle your door tops not knowing what they are.......
I would immediately put a sign in my yard offering a no questions asked cash reward; perhaps hoping whoever took them may return them before they end up at the scrapyard. That's an expensive loss, and terrible since it's only about a buck fifty worth of scrap that they will get for it.
Sorry for your loss and really sorry for those _uckers who took them if you find them before they find you!
If you check my much earlier posting about the door top rack I had a friend build for me that fits just aft of the screen divider. The door tops fit there securely and it would be easy to add a bicycle lock to secure them if the threat of theft was a possible.
Good luck with your recovery efforts!

I love the way that we are so civilised these days.....somebody 'snagged'???? my door tops.....in the past it would have been Grrr!! somebody snagged my horse.....get the necitie party ready...lets introduce him to some rope and a tree!!!! Lol think I prefer the past...you knew where you stood at least! Just as an aside...can some of you Americans put me straight about 'real' history.....I once read that cowboy times could be rough, but on the streets everyone was really polite to everyone and always raised their hats to ladies!!! reason why.....well when everyone is packing a colt peacemaker or something like, you just didn,t want anyone to take offence or you would be called onto the street every five minutes!!! leading to blood, holes in flesh and ultimately explaining to the sherrif just what happened...hence very good manners...if you think about it it actually makes more sense than the Hollywood version!!!!

I may look into creating canvas door tops for now with blue tarps and clear packing tape . Budget is simply not there to replace the door tops with originals. House comes first!
I wonder if i could make a clear system which hangs from the bar above the door and attaches to the windshield edge, door top and B pillar with magnets. maybe the flexible magnetic tape so i can "roll" it up. Hmmmm. Magnet tape and a cut up shower curtain!
If you can find one......a piece of good strong perspex, maybe a throway offcut from some company dealing with it. Saw it done on a Landrover once, even had a sliding window and Aluminium flanges to bolt it to the door, window aperture was cut out and aluminium 'slides' used to allow the 'cut out' to slide back and forth. Or could do like those nasty little Citroen cars where half the window flaps upwards and is held by a magnet.

See through plastic material with 'earth' magnets to hold it to the frame. The doors of an old fridge have strip magnets in the seal of the door.
Check at a scrap yard or a local appliance store that is trashing one. Might have to double up on them to get the right amount of hold.
I have thought about fabbing up some canvas ones when I get my heavy duty sewing machine on a table.
These sad stories get me riled up.
