First Oil Change
Re: First Oil Change
No tools, including this fan holding tool, came with mine is why I was asking.
Sometimes in situations like this, if it is handy, the sharp impact of an impact wrench obviates the need for a holding tool. Not the torque per se but why an impact can remove the lug nuts from a wheel that can rotate freely when the regular wrench can't.
Wondering if this is like that, and the nut dimension.

Re: First Oil Change
Lug nuts are 19mm and "acorn type" So you have to get them from your local Pinz parts supplier. Torque is around 125 ft lbs.
A standard size 1/2" drive breaker bar with 19mm socket will do fine.

Re: First Oil Change
thanks Jim but was referring to the one on the fan/fan belt in lieu of having no fan holding tool or pinz toolkit if an impact could loosen the nut without necessitating holding the fan.Jim LaGuardia wrote:Lug nuts are 19mm and "acorn type" So you have to get them from your local Pinz parts supplier. and the size of the fan bolt.

Re: First Oil Change
Fan nut is 27mm, Loosening with air gun is ok, but you must tighten it by hand.
You can get a pin spanner to hold the fan at Harbor freight for a few bucks.
Move shims as needed to adjust belt tension, rotate fan while tightening nut to prevent pinching belt.
Belt should have 1/2" deflection.

Thanks for that HF point out.

Re: First Oil Change
Sadly the pin spanner at HF in no way is large enough to fit in both the holes on the fan that are on opposite sides. I measure about 5" between holes or 125mm.Jim LaGuardia wrote:Fan nut is 27mm, Loosening with air gun is ok, but you must tighten it by hand.

Maybe there is a different tool at HF, but this one is not it. Max spread on this tool is about 2 inches.
Anyone with an alternate method or local tool to hold the fan for re-installation of the fan nut please clue me in.
An air gun gently removes the fan nut instantly without the need for a holding tool.
But for some reason there were 6 spacing washers in their instead of the 4 the manual indicates. No wonder the belt was a tad loose.
Thanks

Re: First Oil Change
The only fan tool I know of is the one that was supplied with the Pinz. They are available new from SAV (http://www.pinzgauer.com/showdetails.ph ... 101552112/) but are a bit pricey.
I'll take a look thru my spare tools and see if I have an extra. If so I'll let you know.

Re: First Oil Change
Take a piece of bar stock and notch an area out around for the hub towards one end, then drill holes for dowel pins and press them in

Man....it looks like someone's been pretty aggro with that fan nut before. Mine has been on and off a few times and has nice pointy edges still.

Re: First Oil Change
That's what I thought too, but it looks a little better in person. Same way with all the oil plugs - seen a bit better days, but they work.czarthirteen wrote:Man....it looks like someone's been pretty aggro with that fan nut before. Air gun removed it no fuss. The belt is pretty loose.
Going over the new-to-me truck is full of interesting discoveries.

Re: First Oil Change
The pin is not on the inside radius?

Re: First Oil Change
Pin is in the wrong spot (inside radius?) on this as the are located on the front of the fan. Needs to be more like this I think.19D20 wrote:Pulley Wrench, A - Pulley Wrench (Spanner) For Porsche 911

Re: First Oil Change
Nope.....general spanner wrenches work fine. We have a master set from Matco and always find other uses for them. Single pin does the trick with a little mechanical aptitude.

That tool looks like a motorcycle shock adjustment tool...at least for my Ural anyway....djw wrote:19D20 wrote:Pulley Wrench, A - Pulley Wrench (Spanner) For Porsche 911
