800 mile road trip

Got a promotion and am having household goods shipped from Lewiston, ID to Riverton, WY. Just found out they can't/won't trailer the beast which means I have to drive it 800 miles, which I plan on doing next week. The trip has taken 14.5 hours in the Volvo and Rover...am guessing 20 hours in the Pinz. Other than the obvious, oil, tranny fluid, tires, hearing pro...is there anything else I should be planning for?

I have driven it from Boise to Lewiston (normally a 4.5 hour trip) and from Lewiston to Spokane and back. Boise was tough as I was still leaning how to handle it...Spokane was just fun...if a little slow.

Planning to go north to CDA, east along I90 through Missoula and Butte and turn south into Wyoming just west of Billings.

Should I be worried?

Sounds like an excellent time. Would make a great long weekend trip. A two day might be a little tough but three would just be fun. I guess I like driving my trucks more than most. 110 here today and still took my 712 out for a spin.

As long as the fluids are full, enjoy the ride! I cruised at 58-60 mph with my 712 on long trips, 60-65 mph with my 710. Comfy seats and noise canceling headphones make long trips fun.

I have driven from San Diego to Seattle to Denver and back many times in my 710. Might try to stop every two hours or 1/3 tank of gas and just enjoy the scenery.
Relax and enjoy the trip, music if you have it (maybe an Ipod?) makes the miles fly. Have some coffee, if you see something interesting...stop and see it, why not.
Make it a few days and sort of camp along the way. Be prepared to have conversations and answer questions at gas stops or whenever you stop.
Check your fluids and bring a little extra oil, you never know. Fill the spare gas can. Actually these are really sturdy little machines if treated well.

If it's hot, take a spray mister filled with water, for air conditioning. Remove the door tops, and apply air conditioning liberally to you body (and those of all passengers) as needed to achieve maximum comfort.

Left 0730 PST on Friday from Lewiston, ID and rolled into the new town of Riverton, WY at 0330 MST on Saturday. Was a long day. Especially at about 0200 when crossing bridges in Thermopolis. Felt like the wind was going to blow me into the canyon! These rigs are about as aerodynamic as a sail! Dog and I had a blast.

I have noticed on longer trips that the Pinz seems to run better and better. Is that just the ancient motor warming up?

Edzz I ended up going through Lolo Pass to save time so had to pass on Coffee in CDA. Next time!

Mostly it is all the gearboxes warming up; they can take a long time to get the oil thinned out and decrease the drag. Obviously, 712s are worse in this respect than 710s with the added axle.

Generally, the combustion heat of the engine warms the engine oil up in a short time, compared to the diffs and hubs.
