What is the story behind this? Was it confiscated at the dock? I would give $2500 sight unseen!

Its gone!!!! Final bidding offer was $14,000..... It has 1,600 km on the odometer.... Hard to believe,...but seats shows no wear, levers, pedals shows age as It was sitting for years ,wheels perfect! ,surface rust on paint, chassis extra clean it was on the docks since 2010.... Unclaim...i wonder if the number on windshield can tell us a story??...

How does someone NOT claim their Pinzgauer? Will someone slap their forehead saying "Honey, I forgot to pick up the Pinzgauer 3 years ago!"? Or maybe the guy died and didn't tell anyone the Pinz was coming? This vehicle makes me think of the recent Lambrecht auction in Nebraska, Google that if you haven't heard about it.

Seeing first-hand how a Pinz can be kept in Customs for almost a year due to simple paperwork not being filed, I can understand. Gov/storage fees can stack up so high that you end up with twice the purchase cost so you either spend $1000's more or let it go. I can easily see how it can reach a point where its better to walk away.

The owner of a little company i worked for in the 90's had a car get stuck in customs for a while, you'd think with his connections he should have received it the next day. leave it up to a petty bureaucrat to f up someones day...

"The "Gates 959" is an infamous car, one of the Porsche 959s built in the mid-eighties, imported by Bill Gates to the United States in 1987. Gates' fellow Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen imported another one, as did Porsche collector Jerry Seinfeld. These cars had not been approved by regulators and had no Department of Transportation and Environmental Protection Agency approval. The "Gates 959" was stored for 13 years by the Customs Service at the Port of Seattle, until regulations were changed to allow "Autos of Interest" to be imported with severe limitations on their use. Gates and Allen both helped pass the "Show and Display" law."
