Rear door lock mechanism removal

The rear door on my 710K has jammed closed. It appears to be the release mechanism on the catch, but not sure. Tried to remove the cover on the lock mechanism inside. After removing the 10 screws, the cover plate is loose but still will not come off. Has anyone had this problem and is there a trick to removing the plate? When I say rear door, I mean where the spare tire is mounted.

I recall having sticking issues before but I was always able to get it open by sorta lifting and pulled at the same time. Never worked on the latch though.
