712 AMB cots for $15 each

Post by Wayne Roberts »

Those of you who have a 712amb may be interested in these. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=205158 I bought 2 of them to use for camping cots. I checked and they are the correct ones and fit into the aluminum racks in the ambulance body. They slide into the racks and lock down. These are in great shape and are comfortable to sleep on. The ones I received were from the 60's (proof stamp). I have no connection to the company, just thought that someone may be intrested.

Wayne,

How many stretchers can the ambulance accomodate?

Amb cots

Post by Wayne Roberts »

Chuck, The 712 amb will hold 4 cots. The top 2 will fold flat forming 2 bench seats with the top as the seat back. When in the seat mode it feels very similar to the bench seats in the back of our trucks. There used to be one here in Orlando (2012's) and he stripped all of the racks out of it. I was going to use one of the lower racks and install it on the drivers side of my 710. It will fit with moving the mounting pads in about 1.5 inches, but I have yet to get it welded. I think that a 710 amb was offered but I have yet to ever see one.

Is that what you are planning to do, replace the worm with a 712 amb? I was thinking of selling mine and buying one but the extended height of the amb box would make it too tight for the trails that I normally run. I would love to have the extra room as I camp in mine alot but it would not work for me at this time.

Trailer

Post by Boelt63A »

Actually I was thinking of looking for the Ambulance box,(one was just for sale on e bay) and puting it on a trailer to drag behind the Pinz whether it is the Worm or a 712.

With all these ambulances destined for the US this summer I am sure many of the boxes will come up for sale

SAV has them for sale right now. $850 a piece. I have an M201 trailer that would fit nice behind the pinz or M37 andthe box would fit nicely on it. The problem is just too far away for a road trip.

mjnims, I have just purchased a M101A2 trailer and was thinking of doing the same thing. Does anyone know how long the AMB box is? A M101 is about 69 inches wide X 8 feet long. If it wont fit there are many US comm shelter huts that will fit in this trailer. Dont recognize M201, what is that? Googled it and a French trailer that looks like a Canadian M416. Is that it?

The M201 was a generator trailer for the deuce and a half/five ton series trucks. The frame cna be modified to fit just about any configuration. The unit I have has the same bolt pattern and tires as the M37 trucks. The AMB body has to have similar dimensions as the 712M bed. The M101 trailer could also be easily modified to accept the box.

I had a chance to get a 1.5 ton trailer (M105) for $300. The problem with the bigger trailer was the brakes. The bigger trailers are very heavy and require air for braking. I had to pass on it fearing that the Pinz would not be able to stop it quickly if needed to avoid a wreck. The M101 are almost as big but have the surge brakes. I am hoping that this will help when the trailer is loaded. The Swiss trailers that SAV sells also have surge brakes. I would think with a shelter or AMB box in the trailer that you would need to have some brakes on it to be legal (at least where I live).

Electric brakes would be a minimum add to the trailer. The 101's are a bit lighter in GVW than the 105's, depending on the configuration. The same problem exist with the M37 brakes. They are weak at best and the truck weighs a bunch more than the pinz.
