There has been much discussion over the last 2 years on improving the stock heater. Most of what was suggested has been to replace the duct hoses (mine are shot anyway) and then insulate the new duct work. Aircraft Spruce has been a popular place to get the duct work. My question is How much of each size and what sizes are needed to replace all of the duct work? Any sources for the insulation needed?

I got metric sized heavy duty rubber hose (I believe it was 80mm but I need to check on that by looking at the invoice) and non-slit insulation from McMaster-Carr. It is a blended Poly/Rubber duct hose, #53335K14. The non-slit insulation slips right over. I also wrapped an aluminum tape over this whole set up at the points near the heat source, i.e. heat exchanger, rear of engine cowling. Took about 10' of the duct and had to buy the insulation in 6' lengths. Also, I found most of the hose clamps wasted by time and the elements and replaced them with new s.s. units.
I await winter temps to test this all out.
